Question Hood dampers on fiberglass hood?

Has anyone installed hood dampers on a fiberglass hood and, if so, any problems? I have a Veilside V3 hood and just bought the CTD hood dampers from www.courtesynissanparts.com but they feel too stiff and I'm afraid the hood may start to crack. The only other option for lightwieght hoods are the dampers from Top Secret which are about $400.

BTW, these are very nice dampers and do NOT require the covers to be trimmed.

Thanks!

You cant put dampers on a CF hood. The resistance is too great and will crack the hood in the corners.

I have a fiberglass hood as well, and I don't think it would be a good idea to put them on it. IMO, it would be best to stay stock or find something else that can support it from the front end.

Anyone else? I contacted CTD and they indicated if the Veilside V3 hood is the same weight as factory there should not be any problems.

Anyone know if the Veilside V3 is the same weight as the factory hood? I believe it is very close but maybe a little lighter.

Did you install the CTD hood dampers? I have looked around and they look like the best ones for the regular 350Z hood. They are just expensive when compared to others. I guess I will just have to bite the bullet and buy them from Courtesy.

I'm gonna test out the Teins on the Seibon and see how it goes.

Default I would think...

that since the Seibon and many other carbon fiber hoods are close to stock weight that the dampers should be ok (as some have mentioned). This is what I intend to do.

This is kind of an old thread. I have the shocks from Courtesy with an Seibon CF hood. At first the shocks are really stiff. But they eventually wear a little and start to become easier to close. Just be careful for the first few months.

this is exactly what I am about to do. Shocks from Courtesy are crazy stiff out of the box. Should I be doing anything to relax them a bit...?

Not really. Just needs to be careful when close the hood for awhile. You'll know when there broken in. You can hardly compress them by hand out of the box. But I should add that for the break in period, make sure you use both hands spread out on the hood to close. This adds even pressure on both sides of hood while closing.

Check out our hood damper upper bracket. As you can see it is bolt on top of the factory metal bracket. So the weight force of the damper is pushing on the bracket, not on the hood. Check photo below
