this has been covered numerous times....but I'll state it again. There are no real negative effects to a vented hood. The only way mechanical failures could occur from water entering your engine bay would be hydrolock or an electrical short of some sort. All of the electrical wiring it tucked away from elements, so no worries there. That leaves hydrolock. The only way water would get into your cylinder is through the intake or the spark plugs. Its not going to enter through your spark plugs and you have to fully submerge your intake in order to suck up enough water for hydrolock. Your engine bay will get diriter, but thats about it.

...im not sure about turbo placement on the Z but take that into consideration if your boosted.

I have a Veilside V3 (lots of vents) and no problems at all. I do not use rainguards and wash the car frequently with no issues yet after 1 year. Get yourself a leaf blower which works excellent to dry the engine bay and reduce water spots.

good idea re the leaf blower. like i said, this isnt gonna be an off the shelf hood, its gonna be a custom setup, just trying to find out where the safest place to put the vents are.

Seibon TS - 2.5 years on the car, and the car stays outside. Zero mechanical issues and the engine bay gets no dirtier than our other Z that has an OEM hood. Only my strut bar gets dirtier, due to water spots, but that's a 5 minute fix. Car has sat through rain, snow, all seasons with this hood.

The better question to ask is what hood fits well - while many will say they "fit perfectly", most leave something to be desired.
