Default HID bulbs...

I've searched this to death, but I can't seem to find the right answer to my question.

I have a base model 03' z and I want to replace the low beam bulbs with something brighter, like 8000k. I found some on eBay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...MEWA%3AIT&rd=1

My question is: Are these bulbs going to last me a while, or are they going to burn out after a few months use? Has anyone had any experience with just replacing low beam bulbs? Any brands that you guys recommend?

Any info would be helpful!

thanks

i believe these are not HID bulbs. they are just regular bulbs that plug in into the light socket

Right, I don't want actual HID bulbs, my car is a base model and I dont want to buy a whole conversion kit. I only want brighter bulbs to make it look like HID. Any suggestions?

All those LOOK ALIKE bulbs burn hotter than factory and burn out faster. You get what you pay for and those are not worth it. I have done the same thing on previous cars so I speak from experience they will burn out after a couple of months.

What you are looking for doesn't exist. I always think its cheesy when I see a car with blue non-HID headlights. The best you can hope to get out of your existing setup is an upgrade to Sylvania Silver Star halogens.

Look into getting the Brightstar HID conversion kit. Its not that expensive and looks great!

^True dat!

There is no such thing as HID lighting without an HID system. Anything that attempts "HID" with a halogen bulb is just RICE!

By "brighter" do you mean brighter as in providing more illumination or bluer?

8000K isn't "brighter" they're a different color. If you believe the research done by PIAA and others the blue end of the spectrum isn't as bright as the stock lights which tend to be closer to daylite.

If you want "brighter" you're going to need higher wattage bulbs or a true HID conversion. Stock lights are like 65/45 watts hi/lo beams. There are replacement bulbs that are rated at 100/80 or 100/45 giving you more light output. Carefull you don't overload the wires and smoke them.

Recently I added some more light to my other Nissan putting in 560 watts worth of additional lights ... nice, now I can wear my sunglasses at night.

The blue coating they put on substantially reduces light output (I had these in my last car).

When I was on side roads without street lights, I had to have my hi beams on just to see 10 ft in front of me.

That happened to me a few years back on my Honda. Luckly, Honda replaced it under warranty but i had to fight for it. Try Catz, i believe they are good and inexpensive. Good luck

Paul350Z has it right. You are confusing color with brightness.

Color is measured in degrees Kelvin (K).

Brightness is measured in candlepower (candelas) or lumens.

Since you are shopping for a halogen bulb, I recommend the H7ST Silverstar by Sylvania.
