Default ignition question

I plan on putting a switch in my car to where it has to be flipped before the car will start. I picked one up yesterday. I'm just wondering what wire is the easiest wire to get to, to use for the switch? Thanks.

Give me a few days and I'll let you know. You'll want to switch the starter wire from the back of the ignition switch. I plan on putting a switch on the same wire along with my start button install so I can flip it and have the car only start from the button or switch it back to start with the key for service, valet, etc. so they don't have to mess with the button.

Keep an eye out early next week for my install thread with pics.

Will do. I may also take a peak and see if I can find a section that's the easiest to get to. If I have any luck I'll let you know. Thanks.

I've already had my dash apart to check ease of access. you have to remove the dead pedal, then the kick panel covering the fuse box, then the lower dash cover, then the lower steering column cover. Once that's done, the ignition switch and wiring is right there; you just have to cut into the loom and put the switch on the proper wire.

Thanks. I've got a workshop manual that I'll look at in a minute and see if I can find out anything else.

Ok. If it's a security reason you're doing this, not sure you'd want to switch the starter wire or maybe the ACC wire. If you switch the ACC wire, I don't think either the "ON" or "START" positions will function when no power is coming through it, so it may be the better choice. Not sure, though.

I don't have my E-manual with me, or I could tell you which pin it is on the ignition switch connector, but you can find it.

It's for security reasons. I'm not really worried about the electronics, I just don't want anyone to be able to start it.

Well, you ARE aware, then, that the car has a built-in starter kill, right? The key has a coded chip in it that the car had to detect to defeat the factory kill switch, so anything you do would only be effective, say, if someone mugged you outside your car, took your keys and tried to start it, in which case you'd best let them take it, rather than risk them taking their frustration of it not starting with the key out on you!

A fuel kill would be a better way to go.

I forgot about the key chip. I guess I don't really need a switch them.
