Default 03 HID -> 06 HID swap problem. Please help.

I have an 03 350z Touring with HID and I am swapping with the 06 Bi-xenon HID Headlamps. Everyone said plug and play. Plug and play doesn't work properly. When you do so the turn signal remains lit while the lights are on. The turn signal is acting as a driving light.

I have read that people have had this problem but I haven't found out what their solution is. I am sure you have to switch some pins around for a correct plug and play. Has anyone installed correctly?

Give us more detail about how your install went (curious about this as well).
Did you recieve all new bulbs with package? (HID bulb, turn signal bulb, etc)

No this was just a simple 03 HID to 06 Bi-xenon HID. I haven't switched out bulbs yet.

If you haven't switched out bulbs yet... I don't know how it is possible that your turn signal bulbs will just start to stay on all the time if you just simple put the old bulbs back into a new housing. The housing is just a housing and shouldn't have anything in it that changes how the lights stays on or off.

No the actual function of the top orange bulb in the 06 HID is strictly as turn signal. I op tested them before taking them off the 06. The driving light consists of the three yellow led's on the top and the bottom bulb. The top turn bulb shoud not be on all the time.

Thanks for replying mc350z

I JUST bought a set of the 06's to black out and trade with other members. I wasn't aware of this issue? Does it do it for all the lower years trading up to 06's?

Ok so wait a minute I thought you had to swap everything when you went to the new style? Theres a way to reuse all of your old bulbs/hid equipment and just get the new housings?

Also I thought the turn signal stayed on when you turned on the parking lamps.

Guys,
Listen. I was lucky enough to trade lights with a buddy's 2006Z before he carmaxed it. It's not a direct fit, the ligths are not wired correctly.
These 06 lights may be plug and play, but they are not wired correctly when installed in a pre 2006 vehicle.

There are 4 "bulbs" in the 2006 housing...
1) The 3 Yellow LED side marker (this was the "amber strip" reflector in pre 2006 lights.
2) The driving light in the lower corner
3) The Turn signal
4) The bi-xenon HID

On a stock 2006, the driving lights are ONLY 1 and 2

When you install 2006 lights in an 03, ONLY 2 and 3 lights up, and the cool yellow led side markers NEVER light up.

It seem LOTS of folk here are driving around with 2006 headlights mis-wired, and the yellow LED on the side never light up, and thier using thier blinkers as driving lights.

I also confirmed that the 2003 wiring plug uses 8 wires, where a 2006 plug uses only six. There are some definate wiring differences.

Looks like you'll need to splice a few wires over to make the headlights work correctly.

Studying wiring diagrams now.

Take out the bulb, there should be 4 sets of connectors underneath. Try and figure out which ones power the blinker, and steady, then sand the connectors down on th bottom of the bulb?

I think there are other bulbs that have a single filament for just flashing?

Wiring in the lights correctly is not a big deal. If someone hasn't already done a write up about it before i have a chance, i'll do it in a few more weeks. My z is still not put together or i'd do it right now.

I still dont get how it isnt supposed to stay on thogh. If Nissan put a dual filament bulb that usually means that one is steady and one is a blinker.

Standardizing the headlight housing reduces costs over the manufacturing process. Just because there's a dual filament bulb in there, doesn't mean it HAS to light up. There isn't even a wire on the vehicle side harness of the 2006 Z to power the drivers light filament in the turn signal.

I'm pretty sure this is a Canadian requirement, and there IS a wire there in Canadian cars to power the drivers light filament in the turn signal.

Got it figured out...

2006 owners who wanted to make thier turn signals work as drivers lights would merely have to jumper the blue wire (on the headlamp housing) to the green/white wire to make the second filament bulbs operational.

Conversely, everyone who have retrofit these lights to a pre-2006 car... If you want to elimate the yellow second filament being lit as a drivers light, you would merely have to cut the blue wire on the back side of the headlamp.

I'm thinking of keeping the wiring as is and using the dual fialment, but instead, running dual color LEDs:

This will allow the turn signal to glow white as a driving light, and flash yellow as a turn signal.
