Default Which HID bulb?

Hey, my friend has a 2006 350z, he has the stock HID system in his car and I would like to upgrade his bulbs to a blue/purple look since that is the look he is trying to achieve. What size bulbs would I need to switch over to this look? Also 8000k, would that be correct for the blue/purple look? Also, I would like to spend up to $100 on this, so what are the best bulbs for that price range? Thanks

-Kevin

You will find no D2S bulbs period for $100.00. Most bulbs in 8000K {blue} will run you around $250.00 range. www.xtralights.com

xtralights.com is a rip off. there shouldn't be a price difference among kelvins on HID light bulbs.
there are tons of off brand 8000K bulbs on ebay:

The question i want to know is why switch them out? 4300K is the brightest. Are you trying to acheive the blue/purple that audi/bmw have? Your friend's hid has the same effect. those color are produced from the cutoff line.
here's 02 350z cutoff:

notice the blue/purple at the cutoff? it's not the best sharpness or cutoff in the world.
this is from a sc430 projector with clear lense (4300K bulb):

I've never been ripped off by Xtralights and have used a few of their products with good success and theres only a $9.00 difference on the 10,000K, on the other hand I've had terrible luck with ebay crap. I'm sorry you hate Xtralights but they warranty their products for 1 year.

I am a new to the HID, but my 03 does have them. I have noticed that they are not bright enough to light the street well enough. Will it make a big difference if i were to switch to 10,000k??

no, you will loose "brightness" with a high K bulb. The whitest and best bulbs are 4100-4300K (stock bulbs on the HID Z). have you tried adjusting the aim of your headlights? Check out the DIY forum on hos to do that. It may make a big difference in terms of lighting the road.

A lot of people do it for the bling of the purple hue they emit.

Well they're doing it for all the wrong reasons. If you want best forground lighting and cool purple cutoff, then you retrofit to different projectors.

You see that picture i posted, when that car is driving towards you, you will think his HID are 10,000K. as he gets closer, it will get white. when he hits a bump, it will flicker (white/purple/blue). it's the color of the cutoff that hits your eyes. But the driver sees PURE white light when he drives.

Next time when you're driving at night, try to find an audi, s2000, or bmw with stock HID. you'll see the same effect..

When people upgrade to higher kelvin, they're just screwing up their vision.

This is exactly what he just said. The reason it appears purple from far away is because the cutoff is at a very wide angle. As you get closer it flickers because your seeing the colors which are created by the cut off. The driver never sees this except when firing the headlights on a wall in front of the car, then the cut off colors are at a very low angle causing it only to be nearly an inch big. See pictures above.
So if you were driving that maxima that you see with purple HIDs, it would appear white. Then you would be thinking about 350zs have purple hids.....
