Just got my new Z!!! Here is my story!
Hi folks. Three days ago I flew from Oklahoma to Houston Texas to pick up my 2006 Z! I got it for $100 over invoice. The OK dealers wanted me to pay $500 off MSRP for a model that is changing in two months! Touring with nav Interlagos fire. After seeing the hoods of the 07 and the discontinuing of Interlagos fire, I just could not resist the low price. The last car I bought was a 240sx from Nissan in 1990! Talk about an upgrade! W O W!!!! I'm in heaven. I test drove the Porsche Cayman S, Vette, G35, Mustang, and Charger. The Charger and Mustang were POS. The cheapest interiors and handling that felt like you were driving a small bus!
The Vette was better but I just don't want a fiberglass car and a Chevy to boot with horrible reliability. The Cayman S was a nice car but unless you upgrade the hell out of it, the interior isn't much better than the Z (both were good). Headliner looked like it was made from the same company! The Cayman S handled perhaps 10% better than the Z but felt much smaller on the inside. I thought I would prefer the S. The looks of the S are very sexy. I like curves over straight lines. I almost didn't even drive the Z. After driving all these cars and then driving the Z, I was BLOWN AWAY by the Z. After comparing to the Cayman S, I sat in the Z thinking "look at all the things in this car that come STANDARD that are expensive options on the Cayman!" The Porsche Koolaid just didn't agree with me. The Z is the one that made me smile and turn for a second look. It has been worth the 16 year wait!

I'm in Tulsa. I can't tell you how thrilled I am to have this car. I have been and still am a car nut. I read all the magazines and websites and test drive everything that comes down the pike (sports cars). The Z look really grew on me. For five years I essentially ignored it. That Interlagos Fire color just rocks!! The downside is when people ask me what color I got who have not seen the car, I have a hard time telling them! I've driven Lexus, Porsche, Jag, and as a professional photographer have sat in and photographed some fine exotic cars such as Ferarri, Lambo, Ford GT, Rolls Royce. All of these cars are beautiful and wonderfully high quality. Yet I never wanted to own one. Other things interested me (like houses!) There are cars that do some things better than the Z and are a ton more money. The Z does everything well and at the invoice price I got I'm smiling from ear to ear. The Z is my own little affordable exotic. I could not be happier in a Jag, a Lexus, or a Porsche- or even in pricier cars. I didn't buy a car for 16 years because that perfect mix of price, quality, and performance just had not happened for me. I may be late to the party but I finally made it! What a ride!
Awesome bro...Congrats on the Z. Much like you I just went from a '93 240sx to a SS '06 w/nav. I was very torn between getting the interlagos or the silverstone. In the end I think I made the right decision. But everytime I see an interlagos on the road, I start to second guess myself.
Mind if I ask what dealer you went through? Was it Tom Peacock by any chance, and what was the final price? I live in Iowa now, but I might buy one while Im down in houston in december myself. Oh, and where did you see the picture of the 07's hood? =)
Feel free to pm me if you dont want to discuss it here.

Got my Z at Mossy Nissan in Houston. Kirk is the salesmans name. Only 10% BS instead of the usual 75+%. Got out with $100 over invoice. My car had all the mats and aero package. $34,710 plus tax. My local dealers wouldn't play. So I voted with my wallet!
Congrats on the purchase and the deal!! Be sure to check out your Z Club, www.okzcc.com. They have chapters in OKC and Tulsa. They have a lot of events including a track day at Hallett.
Enjoy.
Enjoy.

Welcome and it sounds like you really did your homework before buying your Z. The cars you mentioned all have their strong points, but I think you'd agree that the Z has them all beat in a combination of performance, durability, versatility and value! Compare running costs in a few years and you'll smile even more.
