Question Footwell Lighting

I wanted a footwell light kit to go in my LS Z. Apparently, Courtesyparts.com used to carry an amber footwell light kit but they no longer have it, so I've been searching for an alternative that'll light up orange to match the interior lights.

I really just want it to come on when the doors open, like some of the Lexus and Infiniti cars do.

I found these http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/TWO-6...QQcmdZViewItem

Will those work, or does anyone have any other suggestions? Thanks.

Good post...I'm curious too. If I find anything, I'll post it here.

I hate to tell you, but those will give little more than a flicker of light. If you're looking for a good accent, go with a 10-15" neon. I know it sounds like rice, but wire it straight to the dome light.

I have the kit from Courtesy, they dim out real nice after you get in or leave the car...look OEM. Check Performance Nissan, they had them also.

This may be a stupid question, but will the power supply to the domelight be able to power 2 neons as well w/o dimming them any? I was hoping to use LEDs since they require less power.

Also, would you happen to know which side the dome light power supply runs down?

Acree is the King of LEDs, he'll point you in the right direction. Interested as well...

EDIT: Where's the best place to find led lights to replace the dome light bulbs dome light? Also, a good place to purchase the neon lights?

Don't mean to jack the thread, just thought since we were on the topic.

The "power supply" you refer to is actually the battery. There is more than plenty of current to power 2 neon tubes. I have 2 15" neon tubes wired into mine, PLUS the leds for my door handles. Everything works just fine.

The wires for the dome light run down the driver side A-pillar. Good luck!

Thanks Acree!

One more question, if I use neon tubes, will they still fade in/out like the dome light?

Sort of. They will have a fade effect, but it won't be a noticable as the stock filament bulb. The reason is because the bulb makes a linear amount of light relative to the supply voltage, from 0 to 14.4 volts. The neon tubes starts making light at a higher voltage than 0, so it will dim, but it will be quicker than the bulb, I believe.

Hey Acree,

I picked up a neon light today for the footwell and discovered that I can't figure out which wires are for the dome lights. Then I tried to see about using the wires for the cigar lighters and discovered that the first owner disabled the front lighter and for some reason the rear one won't work either. I'm pretty frustrated about not being able to figure this out...(electrical components have not always been my strongest knowledge base).

You mentioned that the dome light wires run down the driver side A pillar...do you happen to know what color they are (I want to say that they're black, purple and red but I'm not sure) and where exactly they feed to? Sorry to bother you with this, but you seem to know what your doing.

Thanks a million!!

In the driver's side A-pillar, the Pink is Positive and Purple is negative.

PINK +
PURPLE -

Here are pics of my blue neons installed last night....they're just 6 inchers, but they put out great light. Sorry for some of the "jittering" effect, I just can't seem to keep myself calmed down around my Z! haha

Like Acree mentioned...it's the Pink wire that's hot (I'm pretty sure...just check it with a voltmeter if you have one...it always pays to doublecheck other's input). Best of luck UofA.

Hey Acree! So you don't like my tail-lights?! haha I've had fleeting thoughts of switching them out with some blacked out 06 led taillights. However, I'm saving up for a custom paint job and think my current lights might work well with it...we'll see. Thanks for the compliments!!

I'd like to see your taillights with overlays/blacked out first before you switch to red Might look better than smoked out stock led ones.
