My Own Hood Prop!
HI,
after looking at multiple hood prop designs I decided to come up with my own. This is my first try at this and it works great. but im gonna revise the angle mounted to the hood screws because i used aluminum for testing purposes and its too weak. if you look close enough you can see the aluminum yielding.
I think im gonna go ahead and make my bracket from steel and will post pictures of the final product soon. but it works really well.
I havent put the stock battery and brake covers back on, and i plan too. i know most need to get modified and im sure mine will..... so ill post pics of that as well.
I thought everyone might like to see my test set up first.

Thanks, I really appreciate it.
Forgot to mention. it only cost a fraction of the price of any of the others out there on the market too....plus its a fun DIY.

OKAY here goes. I did a lot of driving around my town to find the right hood prop before ending up with the ones that im using.
I have to take a clearer picture of it. But if you look at the ball stud mount location common to the car fender quarter panel. that end of the gas prop is actually designed to mount in that position versus a 90 degree angle position such as the top mount common to the hood screws. With that being said you need to find/buy gas props that have that rounded curvature to them.
Also, at the quarter panel location:
I purchased ball studs and cut them off their base and eliminated the standard 5/16 threads that they came with and welded the ball portion of the ball stud to the top of an M6X1.0 bolt, because that location is a stock fender bolt location.
Also, if you dont care to weld the stud onto a bold you can simply drill out the stock nut at that fender location from the top and use the threaded ball stud you purchase.
I searched everwhere on the internet. the smallest ball stud threading i found in metric was M8X1.0 threading. The stock location there is M6X1.0.
Also, ball stud height is an issue. when i welded the ball end of the ball stud to the M6X1.0 bolt i purchased it was right on the money for height. any higher and the hood probably wouldnt close 100 percent on the sides.
