Default I am now a rolling hot spot..

Installed a Wireless 3G router in my car today...The new D-Link DIR-450 (BestBuy $199) with a Sprint PC-5740 1xEV-DO card... Internet always on w00t!

1. Here's where I put it..

2. Close up of the pretty blue and purple lights when it boots up.. takes about 30-40 secs to power up and acquire network.

3. Here's a close up of the back..WiFi Antenna and EV-DO card.. excuse the mess I'll make it much neater later..

4. Surfing in my garage.. speed is pretty good..I should have checked the actual speed but it was too cold out to be messing around so I'll check it some other day but it was fast and very usable..

I'm confused. Forgive my noobness when it comes to electronics and toys that stem from it. Besides the obvious, where else can you use that in your car except your garage or parked next to a coffee shop?

Hes got the sprint card in it. So anywhere that there is a sprint signal for cell phones he will be able to access the internet. Very cool. I have the same thing but for verizon.

Wow, that IS cool. Never knew....but obviously if my cell phone has internet access, then a car can do the same.

Nice mod, BTW!

This has noting to do with Wardriving.. I have my own private internet connection in the car..

You know how a regular router works right? connect broadband internet to one port.. computers to the other and everyone can surf..

A 3G router takes a wireless EV-DO PCMCIA card as the broadband connection.. connect my CarPC to the other end and voila!.. internet always on in the car where ever I have EV-DO network coverage.. I can check traffic.com.. weather.com .. write my own scripts to track my own car and report back to a website.. whatever i want..

thanks guys.. I think this technology is the wave of the future..

like airbags and antilock brakes were cutting edge in the 1990's

online traffic/navigation/weather/onstar type crap is the hot technology of today
