That's part of life.... live and learn. There is no manual to read. It sucks that most things people do are half assed when you pay full price. It really is hard to find people who excel in what they do in any industry.

uh oh, should have gone somewhere better than MAACO.

but anyway, we have a shop her ein town that does the body/paintwork for the local Nissan dealer. THey use the PPG paints that are VIN matched, meaning they take your VIN number and order a mix of the paint that was used for your car. most places can do this. best bet would be to find out which shop your local dealer uses for thier repair work and get a quote.

they vin matched the car however this is a tri coat color and not easy to match, vin matching according the MAACO doesn't tell them how many layers of pearl to apply, they stated it was the pearl the needed more layers in order to achieve the tone of white in my car, now that I know this(charge to experience) it will never happen again.

allright guys got the bumper back and still doesn't match! I took the car to them already and got the bumper back and they couldn't match the paint! im not talking about just slightly off, im talking about its still off, a bit of a darker tone from the first one but still off, looks like a type-r color from honda and our PPW. What should I do now? should I take it back to them again or should I take it to higher authorities? I have already paid a totoal of $500 to get this front bumper painted, took the car to them and still they couldn't get close to matching it, its just not the right tone. they charged me 350 at first and to repaint they charged me another 150. For $500 It should atleast be a close match. any suggestions?

At this point since you've been paying out of pocket, take it back until they get it right or have them refund some of your money because you've done everything you could. Now it's an issue with their workmanship.

yeah at this point, I don't consider it any of my fault anymore, i'm not family with paint, I don't know if they got the base coat wrong or whatever they did it just isn't the right tone of white. They also took the piece from the car to match it not me, so I had nothing to do with that and the entire car was there in front of them. Anyways I will be taking the car back tomorow with the bumper mounted on the car so that they can see what i'm talking about in a big way. PumpedVA I would take the hood off in a second and take it to them, now that I know how this thing works.

Hey I'm sorry about your bad deal....I would of never went back the 2nd time unless it was at no charge. I would of demanded a no charge...it seems like you gave in too easily....in the meantime do yourself a big favor...Go somewhere else & get a professional expert painter & move on.

It is your fault because you took it to Maaco, you tried to cheap out in the beginning so it costs you in the end. A bad shop will never get the paint to match correctly, heck even good shops have trouble getting PPW to match. Take the loss and find a better shop, authorities won't do jack for you, even if Maaco repaints it a third time I'll bet its no better, they just don't know how to do a 3 stage paint and match it. I wouldn't have paid for them to try the second time

Dont worry, no ones going to notice the mismatch in the paint as long as you have that silly sticker on the hood

MAACO???? That's where you take your daily beater if it needs paint; it really is NOT a place to take a car you care about or parts you just paid a lot of $$ for. I suggest you find a local shop w/ a good reputation for painting/installing aftermarket parts, take them the whole car for matching, and get it done right-if that's possible w/o repainting the whole car. No disrespect, but it sounds like you pissed away the $$ you spent w/ Maaco.

allright, maybe you guys didn't understand why I took this piece to MAACO, I live in south texas deep down in the border of mexico, little place called Mcallen, tiny little spec on the map. There is no such thing as a proffesional down here. MAACO is all we got. If there were anybody else I would have taken it to them. We have little shops in the side of the streets who doesn't have proper equipment and paint will come off within couple of months. I got my car painted from a guy who worked at his house who had a good reputation. He painted my civic and the paint matched and looked nice but 4-5 months later the bumper started peeling. I didn't go to MAACO because it was cheap. I went to MAACO to get a proffesional job and down here in south texas 350 to paint a piece of bumper is expensive. I know 350 to paint a bumper in cali is cheap but we're talking about south texas here. $500 didn't come easy and I will not give up just like that, and no I will not just charge this to experience becuase I don't believe that this is my fault. you cannot say it's my fault for taking it to maaco, its all we got here. you can say that its maaco's fault for not matching it, just a lilttle bit even when I brought the car already. I really don't see how this is my fault but if you guys like to think so...

(sorry, dont mean to hijack the thread!)

PPW is hard to match. I gave the guys who did my kit hell, absolute hell, but they were cool. Paint didn't match at first. 2nd time was the charm. Getting stuff color matched is a *****. Since Maaco is a major company (Nation wide), why not just see if you can contact corporate officials?

BTW, hows the 50mm f1.8 II?

alot of people here dont know wtf they are saying.

The shop needs to match the paint by tinting the base coat to the color of your gas lid.

Maaco = pwnt usually they are cheap so when they do a crappy job u cant take it back to complain that the color should match etc.

lone_z they repainted the bumper for the 2nd time without having to reorder the part. It came out darker than the first time, but it's still off. I just want it to atleast get the right tone and I know I will not get a perfect match. ctwentyto the lense is very nice, I've been shooting RAW at most so I can edit the curves and being able to edit the white balance after shooting a picture is a nice advantage of RAW. I took the car with the aerosync bumper on the car so they can really look at how much off the paint was. they told me that, this is why we said close to possible match, and I say well then do you consider this close match? they had no answer. I also brought up that another guy in the city with the exact same car got his bumper painted on the side and it matched, thus the reason I took it to a proffesional knowing that, not only will it match it will look good and stay looking good. I told I brought the car already and out of all the things they took out of the car they removed the mud guard which I told them was a bit off from the original color of the car. I wanted to leave my side miror which was more of a match and she said the mud guard will be fine since the paint grabs different to plastic. she insisted to take that piece. She told me she would speak with the owner and call me back later today. I will not spend another dime, this isn't my fault. I'll get some shots witht eh 50mm 1.8 later today so you guys can see what i'm talking about.
