Default tinting legal in california?

From what I understand, any tinting on the driver or passenger side windows is illegal in cali right? My coworker has her clk tinted fairly dark and she's never been harrassed by the cops. I might do a moderate tint soon, since my poor car bakes in the sun all day. Any of you cali people experience problems??

Thanks.

I wouldn't recommend tinting the front windows of a Z in San Diego. I got popped in my integra and believe me, it was a biatch to remove and get the ticket "fixed". According to the police at traffice division, you now have to go to court instead of just having an officer write it off. Big hassle. Not sure if this has changed (happened two years ago), but I don't conisder it worth the hassle anymore.

With the Z, I have already gotten TONS of attention from the local PD. I guess it does not help that I work next to one of the divisional hubs, but on 15 and 8, I am always getting the attention from the fuzz. Trust me when I say, they are looking at the cars! I even had one motorcycle cop tell me nice car over his PA while cruising at 65MPH on the 8 next to SDSU.

To tell the truth, it is your decision, and 8/10 times I am sure most police will not care. But there is always that one, and to be sure, they are looking at the ride more often than not.

Hope this helps!

Sucks to hear about your Integra MonkeyBoy. Yeah, I get attention from cops as is, and they've been cool with me having no front plate... so far.

Well, I still have to think about tinting. I counted a good, but small % of cars with pass. windows tinted on the way to work ...

Driver side/ passenger side front side windows can be tinted up to 70% visibility. Windshield can be tinted 4" from the top.

Excellent info. I don't think 70% is worth it. Your car looks good with 43%, definitely what I had in mind. Thanks!

I have a friend with an M3 that had a very light tinting on the side widows (from the dealership). He got stoped just for the fix-it ticket.

Cheers

I guess it depends on where you live in kali. I've had 4 years of tint on the Solara and half a year on the Matrix and haven't been bothered yet. *knock on wood* The Matrix has 20% tint all around and the Solara had 20% too, but it didn't look as dark cuz it had tan interior. I plan to get 35% tint all around later in the year.
