Default Attn: CF Hood Owners - Primer needed??

Hey guys, just asked my bodyshop about painting my Seibon cf hood and the guy initially said "Nope, can't paint that." When I asked him why, he said a lot of times the "paint wrinkles." Something about the clear not being a good enough quality? Anyway, I wanted to know if any of you knew what sort of products your shop used to prep your hood for paint. I mean c'mon, a lot of you have painted hoods that look great, so I don't get it. Oh well, any info would be extremely helpful. Thanks

also told me that you should use a real good automotive primer that dosn't have a certain chemical in it ? can't remember what it was ? florocarbine ?? Big City like Austin Texas You Should be able to find someone to hook you up without any Problems ?? kinda guess that's why I bought a new Veilside 3 hood in ... fiberglass ...

yeah, I would've bought a fiberglass version even if it was more expensive for that very reason, but one was not offered...at least not that I could find. Thanks for the help. It's just frustrating to see bubble and all these people with the same exact hood I have, nice and painted and then you try to replicate it and the body shop guys don't know what's going on! It seems if you don't live in CA, don't expect bodyshops to know a whole heck of a lot beyond OEM replace/repair.

You shouldn't need to do anything special to paint a Seibon hood since it already has a clear coat on it. No primer needed.

well ok, so now is bubble's that way and I just can't see it? If that truly is going to be the result no matter what, I guess that's alright, as long as everyone else is experiencing the same thing. Is it just that other people don't take close enough pics of their hoods to see the wavey effect? I just can't be sure that there isn't some method used to paint a carbon hood to where it looks as good as any other body panel. I do appreciate the comments though. Any input is helpful.

You should have no issue paint it as long as the body shop doesn't wet sand the clear off of the carbon.
