When I get my stock tach noise figured out, I really want to install a aftermarket shift light that I can actually see, instead of the tiny single itty bitty factory LED shift light.

I'm asuming they install much like a tach and require a tach signal from a wire. Anybody have a pic of where a good signal wire would be to use? All I have been able to get is written descriptions of where one might find a wire to tap in to.

 

we have a CAN based car electronics system.. there isnt a tach signal, per say (i.e. RPM signal off the ecu, there are actually 6 injector pulse signals that actually go to the back of the speedo/rpm cluster)

what you can do is get a signal converter that takes the injector pulse signal from one and then do a 'single' cylinder operation... thats what i had to do for the Defi heads up display to get that to read rpm correctly and display the shift light.

i think someone else got to tap into the stock shift light inside the gauge cluster too... but it was a couple years ago. i dont remember who it was...
