Default why does new spoiler come with damper stays?

So I just purchased a brand new oem spoiler for my 03 z and to my surprise, the package also contains 2 brand new damper stays (the things that hold up the trunk) and gives instructions how to replace them.

The spoiler doesn't weight more than a mere few pounds, why do we need to change the damper stays w/ the spoiler?

Anybody know?

you don't need new dampers. Can I buy those from you? Mine broke.

I know a couple of guys with '03 Zs that had the dampers replaced because they weren't strong enough - and they didn't even have the OEM spoiler. It might be something that Nissan is doing automatically for all '03s just in case it becomes a problem.

One time when I was having my oil changed they replaced my dampers and put in stiffer springs (the springs that lift the hatch beyond the latch mechanism when you press the button).

They just did it (for free) and told me about it when I picked it up.

Does the spoiler cause more downward pressure with increased airflow (i.e. when the car is in motion)?

The spoiler alone does not exert downward pressure, but it does reduce lift.

The entire aero-package of the Track model (with the under-body air diffusers and chin spoiler in addition) is actually supposed to generate a true "downforce," but other than that, you are just reducing lift.

The new HD stays come with the OEM spoiler, regardless of model year, when ordered from Nissan (at least up thru '05)...in case the added weight causes the deck to drop with the original stays (do a search that goes way back & you'll read about the deck lids dropping on heads). I installed mine when I added my spoiler to my new '04 3 years ago just to be sure.....work great!

So far up that I couldn't even see the vapor trail. I do think I heard a sonic boom about a minute later. What did I miss?
