as most of you know, I just painted my housings black, but now my light output is terrible. when you look at the lights, they look fine, but either they are pointed too far down, or they lost about 50% of their original output somehow.
I have searched for days and cant find anyway to adjust the headlight positioning. Does anyone know how to do this on an 06'?

ok, so I have figured out how to adjust them, BUT it did not solve the problem
Either I am imagining that my lights used to be ALOT brighter, or compared to the new 3 series bmw, our lights are about 50% dimmer.. Any tech guys know what could cause this?

Well, I think the housings are reflective for the reason that it would refract the light within and amplify the light beam coming out. That would result in the forward beam being scattered giving you a larger lighting area. Once you black that out, its only the forward facing beam that is casting the light and the stuff coming off the sides is deadened by the black. So i guess thats why it would feel like the forward beam is less effective?

the 2007 3series BMW is a projector just like the 06 Z headlights. The BMW doesn't use anything to reflect off of, the projector is right at the front of the light housing, and when you put a white paper in front of the BMW and then in front of the Z, there is no comparrision at all.

when i painted them, the projectors where inside the house, while the housings that got painted were outside, so that cant be the problem. I wonder if the heat from the oven, messed up something in the wires that were still attached? its so strange how dim they are now, but the funny thing is, that when you park the car in the street and walk about 60 ft away, the lights look fine
Do you have upgraded bulbs? If you go higher in kelvin, you will notice a decrease in light output.
If you have the 06's painted with stock bulbs (4300k) , it shouldn't have changed so drastically.

There is absolutely NO reason whatsoever that blacking out the '06 headlights would dim them out. I am in the process of doing so myself and compared the painted side with non-painted and found zero difference. I even have a pic of that. Will post it tonight.
