Default OEM style Spoiler / Wing No-Drill Version?!?

Just got myself an OEM Style spoiler - http://www.elitespoilers.com/inc/sdetail/257

I was expecting some mounting hardware and a template - all i got was the actual spoiler - with 3M tape along the edges. The spoiler itself looks great, but i'm not overly excited about eye-balling the installation. - anyone know where i can get a template?

But my main concern is after receiving the spoiler, I found out it's a No-Drill application. They assured me that they've never had a problem but... let's face it, they sold the damn things, so how much can i really trust their word.

CAN THE 3M TAPE BE TRUSTED????? Imagine having this thing fly off while driving?!?!

Anyone ever installed one of these??

Yes, I have one of these on my car and I have not had any problems. I had to install it twice, because the first time, the surface of my hatch was too smooth and waxed, so the 3m tape didnt stick on the edges, so I pulled it off, re- applied the tape, and cleaned the hatch with soap and water to remove some of the wax.

It has been on my car for a few months now with no problems at all.

Thanks for the reply!!

I take it you eye-balled the install? do you have any tips for getting it on perfectly centered? Perhaps a template.

The instuctions on the site said to use isopropyl alcohol, which i plan to do. But i'm also very concerned with a perfect install - as in positioning.

Thanks!!

I think spoilerdepot.com has a template that you can download, it gives you a good idea of where everything goes but it isn't perfect.

I eyeballed mine using a dry erase marker and 3m blue tape. Came out perfect as you can see in my avatar.

As for just using the 3m tape to hold it in place... I've had mine on for over a year without any issues. I checked and checked this board when I installed mine and couldn't find anybody else who has had issues either.

I cut off the bolts from an OEM spoiler and 3M taped that thing.

Eyeballed the thing with a dry erase marker and my cousin holding the other side of the spoiler before we plunked it down on top of the hatch.

When done right, the 3M should hold well. It's been there for over 3 years.

Even if it magically comes off my car on the highway (which I highly doubt) I rather lose it than have holes in my hatch.

ryan987,

Did you get the spoiler painted from them? If you did, I was wondering if the paint matched the rest of your car? I was toying around with ordering the PPW, but I'm concerned it won't match that well.

even though the oem spoiler is attached via two press in clips and two 10mm bolts. the majority of the surface adhesion is due to.. none other than... 3m TAPE!

no drill is fine. 3m industrial strength all weather double stick tape is great- its the dark grey version that you find at lowes/home depot...

Installed mine this morning....and to be honest, it really wasnt that hard. Just make sure you clean the area with isopropyl alcohol to remove EVERYthing and insure a better adhesion. Measured a million times, then put some maskin tape where the corners would sit. Removed a just the corners of the backing of the tape, and stuck it on. 15min job...literally

How easy is it to remove after you applied it? Does it leave any scuffs or marks?
