Can the film/fogging on the inside of my headlights be removed with windex or other glass cleaner if I just open up the headlamp or is this film more difficult to remove?

I had one headlight replaced under warranty, but now I'm out of warranty. Has anyone had any luck with Nissan doing a good will replacement of fogged up headlamps after the warranty period is up? Thanks.

 

the inside of the headlights is raw plastic, and scratches very easily. You might be able to get away with wiping it down with a very soft microfiber and a DI water/alcohol mix, but you'll likely put some scratches in the lense

 

Are you sure it's on the inside and not oxidation on the outside of the lens?

Try some 3M plastic polish or plastic cleaner (both should work, polish is slightly more abrasive) on the outside of the lens and that will normally clear it up. This is common the 350z and G35 lights and the 3M stuff clears it right up.

 

Definitely try to polish it out. My friend had the same problem with his G35. He had a fog on the plastic that looked like condensation. He just polished the outside and it looks as good as new now.

Iv found thru doing a bunch of Black-outs on the lites that the interior is tempermental almost as if it may have a thin protective coating on it. Any plastic polish will come back to haunt you in a couple of weeks, and I found the one time I used a alcohol solution that the cloth started to Drag, as if the alcohol was softening it.

The best, I think, ( and Im still experimenting ) is mild soap and water and and a gentle wipedown. Windex is not good---Windex is pretty potent stuff

On the exterior, Iv started using a buffer ( proffesional kind u use for buffing new paint ) and 3M Finese III---Its super fine and does a hell of a job. Iv sanded out scratchs and brought back the finish like it was new

 

+1 Yea be careful with what you use on the interior of the headlights or you'll be lookin for trouble later on. Always try soap and water first and go up in order of potency of product if necessary.

 

where can you pick up 3M plastic polish? pep boys have it? or should i try home depot?

 

The 3M Finese III IS actually a very fine MACHINE finishing compound for paint, and that I have paid HIGH prices for at Napa, but more reasonable at Auto paint supplies. The latter is always the best to get 3M products from cuz they sell high volumn....hence cheaper prices. 16 oz at Napa is 20.00 32 oz at paint place is like 22.00

 

so could u buy it at pep boys or autozone? if not any local stores that sell instead of online?

 

I dont know --all I know is where I get it. Would you like me to stop at PepBoys today and see if they have it. Then if you want I will apply it.
