Default rear bumper replacement

changed out my rear bumper today, and took some pictures of whats behind there.

I smell weight savings. who needs all that safety stuff in there. useless! JK

this is behind the rear wheel, no clue where its coming from, but its some sort of vent.

looking down, thats just styrofoam that sticks into a hollow aluminum(guessing thats what it is) bar for safety purposes I assume, or just to give the bumper some rigidity, its pretty flexable when its off the car.

new bumper installed, and this is with the tail light out.

for those considering smoking their tail lights, the tail light is the easiest thing Ive ever taken off the car, 3 10mm screws on top under those caps, then pull straight off to the side of the car to pull out 2 pegs, then disconnect the wire, easy as pie.

my dad screwing around with a wierd *** thing that holds the bumper on, it was damn near impossible to do, not too sure we ever got it. we had to rip the old bumper just to get it disengaged.

AHAHAHHA YOU STRIPPED! *Trying to get banned, haha*

But on a more serious note, congrats on fixing your Z, looks perfect. Sucks you had to go through this, but on the bright side, if you didn't, you wouldn't have those nice TE-37's!

ares:

I may have missed something, but did you replace your stock rear bumper with another stock rear bumper? If so, why? Where did you get the bumper and where did you get it painted?

The reason I am asking is because I am contemplating getting a new driver's side front corner panel and door panel due to some idiot Acura driver hitting my Z. Any information you could provide would be appreciated...

Thanks,
ZMan

Yeah, why did you changed your bumper?

It's nice that you did the job yourself, guess you save a lot of money on that one.

Wheels look sick!

long story, but the short version is that I messed up the rear bumper, theres pictures of it floating around here somewhere. I also took out the turn signal assembly.

I went with another stock bumper cause it was around 280$ vs 700 for a full bumper replacement from ings or veilside, we also had 100$ discount from a survey that we did, good for any parts from nissan.

my mom crashed my dads car about 2 months ago, so he had brought it in to have a new hood put in, which they painted, and he liked, so we took it there, it was around 200$ for the painting. Im not nuts about the paint job on the bumper, but then again, its no worse than the rest of the paint.

and yeah, between me and my dad we can do pretty much whatever we need to, we put the service manual to good use. thus far the only thing we've let someone else do was oil changes, tint, and mounting the tires. gotta have a hobby to consume your time in the weekend, be it making reflectors, grounding kits, installing bumpers, or mounting tires.

this is what it looked like before.

I just got rear ended and my damage looks identical to yours but on the driver's side. How much did it cost you and how hard was it to install (How many hours). If it's not too hard I might do mine myself. Except my tailgate got messed up too so I might have to do that. Ugh
