Default Why no T-Tops

I was just wondering why Nissan decided not to have T-tops or a Targa top on the 350Z. Since the Z was introduced with the 240 all the way up to the 300 they all had the option of T-Tops. I had a 90 300TT and there was nothing more enjoyable than having the T's off. Personally I dont think the T-Tops would look good on the 350 but a TARGA TOP would be EXTREMELY SEXY!! What do you think??

Targa top would be cool. Yea I was just talking about T-tops with my friend yesterday. They look awesome on the 300zx, but I agree with you that they wouldn't be a go for the 350z.

I don't think there would be much space or any space to store it in the hatch.

I really think they were going for a "purer" sports car. That's why they have the G35/37 so those who want a roof and more luxury features can have them.
In previous years, there was no counterpart to the Z's, so maybe that's why T-Tops or sunroofs were offered.

Talking Omg!

That pic gave me a chubby! Wow! That is SO sexy! Too bad they don't have a top option for the Z's.

Oh well...I guess I'll have to slide into my 300ZX TT to experience T-Tops. Life is such a beyatch!

Not again... SEARCH. This has been discussed at nausium and a shop has done the real deal and will do yours as well if you have about 8K to part with.

Why not carry on the Z tradition and make it TT to begin with? All questions we will never know. Darn Japanese cars with those darn lil Asian engineers. I think they did a pretty good job though.

8k++ sounds about right...I also inquired about this as something cool to my bodyshop. He mentioned that the roof actually plays an important role in the stability of the chassis.
He said it was not a good idea, esp from the additional torque
of FI... A custom rollbar would have to be fabbed in addition to other frame reinforcements. Also there might be additonal
costs to getting the roof to re-attach correctly.- watertight and such. - For it to fit in the trunk it would have to be split in the middle and actually detach into 2 parts... Def cool but pricey indeed.

8k for a targa and loose stability so what about adding a sun/moon roof to keep the stability and still open it up a little?? Who knows the price to cut a whole and add one??

Cause t-tops leak like a MF'er. No manufacturer really does these anymore. Porsche used to do one, but now their targas are just really big sunroofs, and Ferrari hasn't done one since the 355GTS in 1999. Just to mention the puriest of sports cars...

I had 300zx t-tops for a while and i can tell you that i didn't get all the "FREEDOM" of convertible. Also, you can feel the air pressure rising in the hatch that drags you car... There was a rumor in 300zx forum that if you go 120+ mph with t-top, the rear windshield will blow out <-- never happened yet lol
Like it's mentioned above, it leaks like crazy and it's almost impossible to fix once it starts to happen.
