Default rant about carbon fiber hood or any hood for that matter

so im over here in iraq right now and i just bought some rims for the Z. i also wanted to get the seibon t-s carbon fiber hood. most sights sell it for 640 bucks. so thats kind of a lot of money right there. so they guy tells me its going to be a 150 bucks to have it shipped. ( to my friends address in NC ) which brings it up to 790 bucks!!! WTF???? i had a bmx bike shipped out here to iraq which weighs like 35 lbs and that only cost like 35 bucks and weighs a lot more than a cf hood. so then i do some research and find out that most sites charge about that much for shipping. now i know its going to be in a big box. but its a cf hood. it cant weigh that much to charge 150 bucks for shipping. so why are these company's ripping us off for shipping on these things? the other thing was if i had it shipped to a buisness it would only cost 45 bucks in shipping. so what the hell is the difference between shipping it to a buisness and a residential address? whatever.

probably because they don't charge you by weight but by volumetric mass

i.e. the box that they put the hood in has a far greater volume than the bike..

as to why it costs less to ship to a business? no idea.

It's not so much the weight as it is the size of it.

guys, i had a Seibon VT hood shipped to me last november--it came shipped INSIDE of a huge pallet. They do that to protect the hood from scratches and dings. I think that plays a huge role in the shipping cost.

My guess as to why Business are cheaper is because they tend to be 'prerouted', ie Fed Ex is going there anyway to pick up packages..

Shipping ranges from $80-$130 depending on location. The rest is for packaging material, and most of these shops are drop shipping which is an additional $20-$40 from Seibon. This is why we pick-up our parts, and because we have better quality control that way.

We are well below $669 shipped.

yep. They charge you not only in weight but the amount of room the item takes up. Also if the package is an odd size item they would ding you there.

I thought everyone knew already since we are the largest dealers in the US. PM sent with mastergrade quotes.
