Default Under engine and wheel well shroud

I am curious, has any one removed them and drive around that way?? My Wheel well shroud got messed up (Long story) and I am just wondering if I can just leave them and the under engine shroud off?

You can leave them off, but they are aerodynamic on the Z. They also help shield the underside of the motor from debris. I'd get a new set if I were you.

They also help to keep the engine bay clean; it'll get disgustingly filthy in there without them.

Great.. just great. After I put on my bodykit, I was told the new bumper fits too far out to attach the shroud. Guess I gotta figure a way to fashion some kind of attachment to get it back on. Argh.

^ I had the same problem with my old bumper. It basically didn't fit and just kinda hung on the wheel well. I constantly had to re-tuck it in. Eventually, they got tore up. One I had to remove, the other one got caught under the tire and flew off on the highway! Luckily the new amuse bumper I just got installed works great and the underlinings fit perfectly. I wouldnt drive without them for too long. Also, the under-engine one gives some protection for the oil pan...

What about using some sort of mesh to replace it?? mine also got caught under the wheel and tore off and once it was off the air hitting my Oil cooler brought the temp way down! so i was thinking if I don't leave them off but say on the driver side wheel well use some black mesh?

I dont think its my wheel well shroud, its the underside engine protector from what my wife described. Eddie did an amazing job, but he told me he the bumper didnt have the fittings for that protector anymore, and he couldnt fashion a replacement. But he told me alot of guys get rid of it once they put a FMIC up front, because it would normally block it. So, Im honestly not sure what to do.

Could someone take pictures of what its supposed to look like when its mounted? With and without an aftermarket bumper? Please?

^ It's your call, I don't see how it would bring down oil temp as when I didn't have the shroud, oil temps remained fairly consistent. Mesh won't solve the clean issue. If you guys have bumpers that extend further then the shroud, I sugguest removing it and extending it. I was planning on cutting up my "ripped" shrouds and using the old ones to extend new ones I purchased. Luckily, they fit perfect with the amuse.

ohhhhhhhhhhh... you mean that piece. Well, I wouldn't be TOO worried about it. It does give some protection to your oil pan, but it's so high up, that it shouldnt become an issue. Just be careful and take all potholes/bumps/etc. SLOW!!! I specifically asked Andy (younger guy that works with Eddie) to make some custom bracketts for my bumper and the plastic piece. I'll take pics once the car is up again.

Hmm thats an idea. Maybe fashion a larger one for the time being. You mind doing a write up, picture thing? When I get home, (around october), I'll use it to fix that issue.

Duh, now why didnt i think of that? Where did you get the other shrouds?

the plastic shrouds protect things from moisture, debris, and help with aerodynamics.

behind the wheel wells you have the headlight wiring and headlight assemblies.

order new ones from mynismo.com.

^ Yes, especially on the passenger side. You definitely want some protection! You can order the fender linings, etc from ANY nissan dealership. I got mine from one of our nissan dealerships. They only charge 10% above cost for the local Z club members.

Cool. I'll get the wife to take some pics for me today, and see if you guys give me some ideas once I actually see what it is shes talking about.

Hey synth, anything going on when I get home (either oct or Nov)? I wanna take the z to a meet or two.

I think the reason the Oil temp dipped was that the Oil cooler I have sits behind the driver side shroud. Once it was gone, the air was able to pass right over it and out cooling it off a lot more, that is why I was thinking buying a new one but cutting out a 'window' and covering it with black mesh.....just a thought.
