Please Help my shift knob!!
long story short, i got my new shift **** in today and after i blue loctited it on the first time it was still spinning a little so i took it off and put More blue loctite so it would be solid.
Now my problem is that I was planning on spinning it as far as i could go and then backtracking so that the emblem would be straight and right way up. However after reaching the end of the thread and then trying to back track I found it had become solid!!!! in 10 sec... and the emblem has been rotated like a 100 degrees too far so it looks like ****!!!. what can i do to fix this
I tried to channel lock it off with a towel but it's very hard to grip cause of the shape (similar to stock but metal) and i've already put a half inch gash to the side.. I can live with the gash but not it beeing that crooked... any advice on how to soften the loctite and somehow get my **** off without damaging it....
Any advice appreciated. I'm so bummed.... please help

I would follow the same directions that are around here for taking off an '03 OEM shift ****. Pull up the center console, get some vice grips latched on below the shift boot, get a rubber wrench and turn. Eventually the locktite will break. Just make sure you torque the wrenches against each other evenly. You don't want the vice grips to move and end up damaging the transmission as you unscrew the shift ****.
Good luck.
Good luck.
will do. hope it doesn't permanently scuff my ****. thx
Btw: I was so happy cause my oem **** for my 07 just twisted off easily without any tools. Guess this is just like life. something good is always followed by something bad and vice versa

I recently removed my own shift ****. It sounds like you have already used too much loctite in reassembling the new ****. The original use of loctite only extended to the bottom third of the total thread length. Like chesire suggested, use a strap wrench or similar to avoid damaging the ****. Wrap a coarse towel or similar cloth around the **** to protect the finish and prevent slippage. Good luck to you. I failed in my own effort to remove the **** without damage, and to repair the shifter cost me $300 in repairs at the dealer.
I have a strap wrench and and vice grip in use... however, due to the shape and smooth finish of the **** even with a rubber strap wrench it slips... looks like it's on solid and there's nothing i can do about it... i used loctite on perhaps 7-8 threads. not all the way around but like a quarter of the circumference
wish i'd known loctite was only for the last 3 threads before i started....

Once the **** comes loose, some solvent can be used to eradicate any trace of the rubber cement without harming the metal ****. [Just a thought]
