Default Automatic headlights? Confused about something...

Perhaps this has been brought up before, so excuse me if it's a repost. I'm confused; my 2006 Touring clearly doesn't have auto lights. Which is fine and all, (albeit weird because my 2001 Maxima had them standard), but why does it have the light sensors present on top of the dash? It makes no sense.

Do Grand Touring models have auto lights?

Do you mean "automatic" as in they turn off automatically if you leave them on? All Z headlights will turn off after 5 minutes automatically if you leave them on and take the keys out the ignition.

The blinking red light on the dash is for the security system.

No, I mean light sensitive automatic lights. For instance, when you turn the stalk to auto on the FX it'll turn the lights on and off automatically all depending on how much light is outside. It's a little unusual to not have it in a 2006 model car, where as a 2001 Maxima had it standard.

Furthermore, I don't know what the top of a 03-05 dash looks like, but the 2006 actually has the sensors mounted inside - the same light sensors that are also present in my FX. So for the car to not have automatic headlights is very confusing.

Btw, you can adjust the length the headlights remain lit via Consult II tool. I'm going to have a friend set it to 30 seconds next week.

We always see questions here about why does the Maxima/Altima/FX/etc have a feature that the Z doesn't. Mainly it's because the Z is a true sports car and all those extra bells and whistles add weight and increase the price of the car.

They sell automatic light sensing headlight relays for like $30-$50.

I had this feauture on my Celica and it was kinda neat, but I like the idea of having more control over the headlights, in case I want to move like, a few feet at night with only my parking lights on, etc.

Im a loser indeed...

The sensor is for the dash lights. Just go in a tunnel and you will see your dash light come on. I wish the lights came on too. But.....oh well.

It's all about "control"

I don't like auto on/off lights. The Toyota Matrix is full auto and no manual control at all, sucks if you pull up to apple bees pickup. You have to turn the car off or blind the inside customers!

You didn't get the question.

Ahhh, thats what they're for. I never even noticed. It seems sort of half-assed to just have it do that. Ah, well. Thanks!
