Default Just painted my 06 bi-xenons...and...

Updated BELOW with on-the-Z pics! - Please excuse the poor pic quality P-N-S camera ftl plus the sun was going down = poor lighting Real photoshoot coming soon!

-----------------------------

Holy **** it was a lot of work!

LoL, I had the help of the lighting master aka redlude97 came over to help me tackle this set. As always my car was being a pain in the *** throughout the process from the bumper, to the painting, and everything else haha.

We started at 9ish and I just finished at 2 am. Definitely an all day task and I have to say I underestimated the difficulty of the task. Now I have a new respect for the lighting mods lol. Thanks again Hai!

Here are some in-progress pics and new ones will come tomorrow morning. As for the g35 headlights on the counter we were going to do that set too...of course it never happened lol...

Definitely the painting part. The problem is that the paint works in 60 degree F while it's 40 degree outside in Seattle right now. Even though we did it in the garage (started outside hard to move inside) it hazed and we redo it inside the garage. The clear coat wasn't really making it glossier so we decided to repaint over it with gloss black paint only. Anyway, to help it dry we baked the pieces in the oven...yummy! lol It turns out baking it makes the paint super glossy! So in the end everything was nice and smooooth and glossy like I originally wanted so I'm a happy camper

You should definitely do it, it gives the Z a much more aggressive stance. Hai (redlude97) is a mod over at g35driver and he have been telling me to do it for months (even before I got the 06 headlights) I debated for a long time but finally pulled the trigger and couldn't be happier

crap i really wanna do that now haha!!! only part that still kinda freaks me out is the "baking". and i hear that if you dont seal the headlight just right after youre done, you'll get condensation in there. pretty expensive headlights we got, i'd hate to ruin them haha. maybe someday i'll give it a try

hahaa nah 9pm to 2am lol I thought the baking was hard too until Hai showed me, if you're careful it's not the hardest part. Painting was a PIA. I'm super happy with it though. I say you should ask for some local help and if you find a person thats already done it, it will give you the courage to work on your own lights.

How did you prep the pieces before painting? Or did you use a plastic paint (Krylon Fusion) so you didn't have to prep?

Looks great!

I've been needing to do my headlights for awhile, but Hai and I are both so damn busy! Hopefully soon...

Straight to primer, then regular heat resistant gloss black, no prep. The parts don't get any type of abrasion inside of the headlights, so its not a huge issue, you can scuff if you are really concerned.

Just wondering, did you use krylon? It definitly should bring the car together much better. Im glad i blacked out my headlights also.

No, we used duplicolor engine paint, heat resistant to 500C

Looks sweet!!
A couple questions: did you have to get every bulb out? Like the main light (don't know what it's called), it looks like it didn't come out?
Also, is it just personal preference to not paint the silver part of the assembly?? Or is there another reason? just curious.

hmm, i like your old headlight look better. It gave nice contrast on your car. I think it's too much of the blue and black thing IMO.
