I've been reading through some threads about how to remove your shiftknob. I was wondering if anyone had an How-To (easiest way) to removing your stock shiftknob. I don't want to ruin my stock one as well.
I know that most of the guys said, just twist off (give it some strength).
Con: It was also stated that this way is not recommended.
Using Channel Locks* (feedback appriciated)
If using this technique, did it work well? From what I saw, someone stated, "Use a towel to cover the shiftknob, while trying to remove it.
Basically my main question is, what is the "easiest" way to removing it, without ruining the shiftknob.
I want to put an aftermarket one on the shifter.
Thanks guys.

Thats the first thing I did. If you noticed the first thing I said in my post, that I read through some threads, and from that I wanted some better answers.
Thanks though.

pretty straight forward install just make sure you wrap any wrench in a cloth or something so you dont scratch or tear anything. IE the leather OEM ****.

man bunch of pussies just turn the thing shessh wasnt that hard just a lil back power. the shifter is pretty sturdy so just twist. the only thing is just make sure not to lean too much or anything while twisting otherwise youll hear a break
the Nismo instructions state explicitly NOT to take off the shift **** by turning it like you guys recommend. They say you should pull up the cover surrounding the ****, hold that w/ a pair of lock pliers, then twist off the shift ****
Some Z's had more glue than others, so I strongley recommed NOT just trying to unscreww it, unless you are also clamping on the shifter or you will fug up your tranny and or syncros's? or something bad like that.
I used a huge cresent wrench and rag near the base of the **** and vise grips as tight as I could get them on the shifter. Also removed the shifter plate/boot assembly
Make sure however much force you put on the ****, you use equal opposing force on the lever.

there's also the DIY section which has pics and steps...i think you'll just have to depend on luck to figure out how hard you're gonna have to twist to get your shift **** off. Mine came off without a fight.

when you twist it to the side you will feel the actual pole that goes into the tranny turn a lil bit, you wanna keep a steady hand on that so it doesnt feel any resistence and then use ur other hand to twist the shift **** off (yes...use power) and walla, a very easy and safe method
