shift knob...WHAT THE ****
Alright, i've looked over this site for like 30 minutes trying to find out how to "secure the bottom rod" to get the shift **** off.
I've been WRENCHING on this thing to get it to turn, and having someone else hold a pair of vice grips on the "bottom rod".....it just wraps the ****ing rubber boot around!!!! what the hell am i doing wrong?!!?!?!?!?!?

the more i keep searching on here the more i think i messed my car up and wanna see if it will even shift now but....
I have a pair of channel locks(my mistake) on the actual rubber part of the boot closest to leather boot. I have a towel and another pair of channel locks on the shift ****.....
it has already been twisted around before i realized i was twisting the rubber boot, did I just **** my transmission up?

It isnt that hard, just make sure you can see the rod and that only the **** is turning. Most people just **** up their original **** because it is hard to get enough force on it without putting the channel locks on it directly. Your tranny is probably fine.

yea the original shift **** is ****ed now..... when you guys got yours off, did you get underneath both rubber boots? Because mine is NOT coming off.....it twists and i can turn it, and the metal rod right by the ball socket isnt moving, i know that for sure.....but when i turn the **** it just keeps turning, along with the rubber boots.....it doesnt get any easier to turn or anything at all, it doesn't seem to just pop and have it come lose.....if no one has any idea i guess i'm taking it to nissan....uggghhh
I used vice grips on the lever and towel and big *** crescent wrench on the base of the ****. It was a pain but it came off fine with a ton of effort. No damage at all.
How much stronger is red (extra strength) loctite compared to the blue?

Red is more for things like flywheel bolts, automotive bolts, etc. It will take vibration better as well. It takes more than 250 degrees C to loosen.
Is your Z an 03? It seems that those are generally the hardest to remove the shift ***** on. I know mine was a huge huge huge PITA to remove. It took me and a few friends a lot of effort. I messed up the stock shift **** in the process (not as bad as the pic above) and even messed up the actual shifter a little bit
. Fortunately everything ended up just fine. Just twist as hard as you can.
