Default Plenum painting

Was bored, and while I was looking at my front bumper to decide what to do with the grill, I stared at the engine bay, particularly at my ugly, stained plenum.

I've been thinking about painting it gloss black.

Has anyone else painted their plenum? Pics would be nice.

Ooooooo, they look niiiice!

Much better than the stock, ugly, stained color.

Did everyone just do black? Is high-temp really necessary?

I was thinking about doing this as well. I dunno if I'll paint or just polish though... I started out with some of this stuff:

and made this:

shine like this:

I might upload my actual pics later.

Anyways, I'd like to know more about the prep work rs90808 did for the plenum before painting it.

Is getting it polished an option?

Is polishing the plenum something I can do myself? Like, does it require a sh*tload of sanding and stuff to get it smooth? Or do I just take a Mother's PowerBall for example with some aluminum polish and just go to town?

It is a ton of work much sanding/polishing! If your patient, have atleast 12 hours and the plenum off the car, go for it. if you dont have a big polishing motor then i wouldnt attempt it at all.

Then I'd like to say... screw polishing.

Will painting the plenum have any adverse effects on intake air temp? Will it "insulate" the plenum so it will retain heat or something?

Anyone know if painting the plenum will retain heat more and have a negative effect on the intake?

I highly doubt painting it will have any ill effects.

Alright. Thank you Aloh.

That was the main thing holding me back. Looks like tomorrow I'll be prepping it and painting it.

I wouldn't bother unless you really think it looks like crap (stained) now.

It is kinda discolored and everything. I'll paint the plenum gloss black and eventually my engine cover will be painted silverstone to match my car.

If you're gonna do that might as well pick up a plenum spacer while you got the upper plenum off.
