Like the topic says.. I've got an LED project for the front bumper reflectors -- but every now and again someone mentions what a PITA they are to open up...
I ordered a set recently and I would like to be prepared.

So far all I was able to dig up was an old thread by boogiemyke which mentions something about adhesive solvents and razer blades.. Does anyone have experience with this?

Would like to know as well, will be swapping out bumper reflector soon, or might just do a new front.

 

I took mine apart with a Dremel last winter since they didn't want to budge otherwise.

 

Take the fender liner out. Then they are easy to get to. Only two bolts and a couple of tabs hold them in.

 

Any pics of the in-progress or finished product?
Did you just use the regular heavy-duty cutoff wheel?

Any trouble sealing them back up?

Anything else you think might be important?

 

I think he means opening the actual reflectors themselves.

No issues with resealing them. I used the 'Seal All' brand clear silicone. Yes, the regular wheel will be fine, just maintain a steady hand. You wouldn't want so much plastic to come off around the edge that the reflector body becomes 'shorter' so to speak when put back together.

The only other caution I would offer is ensuring you use a new or newly-sharpened drill bit to drill holes into the reflector itself (if that's your plan). That back piece that runs the length of the reflector (where I installed my LEDs) is very fragile and will break easily if you aren't super careful and put even a little too much weight onto it to compensate for a duller bit.

Well.. I tried boogiemyke's razer and adhesive remover method, and I ended up cracking the lens =/
Guess I will have to order a new set and just go dremel..

 

put em in the oven i think the temp is like 350 thats how we did head lights on my old accord put em in for a few mins then a jus pry apart carefully than ju reseal when done>

 

Read on another thread that this method was attempted and did not work =/

 

^^ Correct. Unlike headlights, the side markers do not use adhesive sealant so there is nothing to melt in the oven but the markers themselves (and they will).

Sure did! I had the calipers repainted and they look beautiful! I'll be starting a new thread on it shortly since I don't want to hijack this thread.
