Default Anyone convert 03 interior to 06+

I read in nissan sport magazine that an editor changed out his 03 interior to 06 interor. Has anyone on here done this kind of conversion, and if so how difficult is it to do?

I've got a 03 touring with side airbags and navigation. I would like to at least change the door panels to get the cup holders and it would also be nice to change out the center console.

I know it's possible to install an 06 steering wheel with radio controls but can you install an 06 bose and then run the stereo controls to the wheel?

Thanks for any help!

I'd be interested in the wheel conversion too. Is the 06 Bose different to my 04? I am presuming I can't just buy the 06 wheel because there are no wires going from my head unit to the steering column right?

Check with raycs7. He is a member on this site and he's doing an 06 conversion. It's coming out real nice too. Shoot him a PM, he is a real nice guy to talk to.

I personally don't think it would be worth the cost for such a small difference.

Correct, you can't just install a '06-08 steering wheel and expect it to work with the headunit (BOSE or Clarion) because it is has no wiring to support it. There are also differences from the '03-05 headunits to the '06-08 (BOSE or Clarion) headunits themselves. The bottom line is it would be difficult to add these stereo features to the '03-05 models using an OEM headunit.

Hope you enjoyed the rest of the Spring '08 issue!

I would be interested to know this too. I have an Alpine Double din unit. If I understand correctly and 06-08 steering wheel with audio controls would work on an aftermarket Radio unit?

People wear down their interiors. Might as well replace it with the newer version if they're going to tear everything down anyways.

You can just barely see the cup holders in this picture. On the passenger side it's to the left of the door puller.

The hardest thing is finding the pieces at a reasonable price.

The curvature of the 06+ stereo is a little different. Also, if I remember correctly, someone from Performance Nissan wrote that the new hvac controls didn't work properly when placed in an older model. I tried to do a search, but I couldn't find the post.

That's correct, the headunit from a '03-05 model won't fit into a '06-08 center console. It's not only the curvature, it's the dimensions of the two units themselves. So color is the least of your worries!

The only way to do it properly is to swap out the entire interior. Retain the white HVAC control unit from the '03-05 car (located behind the silver *****) though, if you want the controls to function properly.

This conversion is NOT as easy as it appears! You definitely don't want to do it for the cupholders...

alpine carries a module so that way you can keep your steering wheel controls.
