Default heat gun or oven method?

I've read info on both methods for removing the headlight covers and was wondering which is the best method for removing the headlight covers on a set of 06 headlights? Has anyone had any serious issues with either method?

I know there is lots of info on this in the forums but I can't seem to find any info on issues or possible problems I could have. I really don't want to mess up my headlights ( cracking them open for the sti lens mod ).

I will assure you that a heat gun is a million times easier and cleaner. The oven thing always freaks me out.

ive done a few headlights with heat gun and they all came out clean and i tried a couple in the oven, and results werent so pleasant.

I just dont see you being able to heat it up evenly enough to get it off with a gun...

you gotta pretty much start with a skinny side and hit it around the edges and pry it slowly. DO NOT use tools, you will damage the headlights. grab the lights and pull them apart. Keep heating and prying. its simple. I think resealing is the biggest *****. its hard to keep condensation out.

umm.. this way is faster and it works at least 25% of the time. just be careful not to melt the whole assembly.

Just last week I posted the procedure I've perfected using the oven. Due to various circumstances I got the chance to do this a couple times within a 4 - 6 week period and learned alot from mistakes. I bought a heat gun thinking it would be easier but ended up returning it and going with the oven method.

This procedure is for 03-05 but should apply mostly for the 06. Additional information included for removing the amber difusers and replacing the amber side reflectors and turn signal bulbs.

There should be a rule stating "only use heat gun", but I guess people will still rebel.
