Default legal issues with HID

I got pulled over 2 nights ago and the cop asked to see some sort of legal paperwork for my after market HID bulbs (9k)
My Z came stock with HIDs and I bought some used after market bulbs off my350z around 1 month ago (thus I have no paperwork for them)
the cop was cool and just left me with a warning but i want to get the paperwork before i get pulled over again
wondering what I need to do/does anyone have some paperwork I can scan and copy?
any info is appreciated

never heard of that before...although I have been completely blinded by the brightness of other cars' obviously aftermarket HIDs.

you could get a lower kelvin bulb. At 9k that must be a deep blue. That's probably why he noticed it. If you went with 6k (white/very mild blue) it wouldn't be so noticeable.

9k aftermarket bulbs? I don't get why people change the oem bulbs to aftermarket higher kevlar ones. They just make the output worst.

That's mostly from people that install and have no fking clue how to aim the bulb. They'll usually aim it too high... ftl.

To the OP: He should have pulled you over for having the wrong K bulbs. You don't drive a Scion, therefor you don't need blue bulbs. That's my opinion though.

i really don't understand why people buy 9k Kelvin kits. natural, mid-day, sunlight is just below 4200 K. once you start entering the higher kelvins, you're not really helping your night vision at all.

He pulled you over and questioned you because retrofits are illegal. The vast majority of people who buy retrofits tend to get 6k and higher kits, so when a cop sees something like 9k bulbs, its pretty natural assumption on their part.

IIRC, there's some markings on your headlight housing to indicate HID, or at the least, your owner's manual will.

My advice, get rid of the crappy 9k bulbs and go back to 4300 bulbs. It'll improve your light output and you won't get harassed.

There is no way to aim a HID PNP kit in a halogen reflector housing to eliminate all glare cause by the HID kit. Any way you look at it, its illegal and makes you look like a douchebag on the street
