55w HID vs OEM 35w HID

Heat may not be a problem, but what about UV rays and our polycarbonate lenses. Are DDM tuning lamps UV coated like the bigger brand name lamps?
A: Contacted DDM, the tech guys specified that their lamps are indeed UV coated.
I was thinking about this the other night. Another one of my concerns was overdriving a 35w lamp to 55w output, does DDM use a true 55w lamp in their 55w kits?
A: All of our bulbs are rated up to 60 watts. If ordered a 55w HI/LO kit you may noticed the bulbs have a 35w sticker on them. Do not be alarmed as these bulbs are rated up to 60 watts. The ballast are what controls the output, so as long as you received 55w ballast you will have a 55w kit.
Yes, my 04 350 has the OEM halogen lamp setup. I thought the D2R lamp is what I wanted. It has the small metal band surrounding the lamp to prevent unwanted glare. If I specify H7 only, I may get a lamp without the band!?
A: They offer the D2R lamp, which does have the ceramic coating on the lamp. They also offer the HID kits with the H7 xenon lamp, which is a direct fit for H7 halogen style housings, but this lamp does not offer the ceramic band on the lamp.
The beefy HID wiring harness (which seems like a good idea for 55w kits). How did you integrate that into the mix?
A: According to DDM, IIRC, the kits come with the 9006 style adapter and +/- spades. These spades plug into halogen sockets. ie, plug-in-play
I'm assuming the beefy HID wiring harness eliminates the need for this kit. Then how do you turn the lamps on, if it's now powered seperately?
A: If I've got this right, the kit's harness can be connected to the additional DDM HID harness and act as a (on/off) source only. The kit will be powered via the battery by the heavier gauge wires, fuse and relay.

As we know, the 03-05 OEM hid are not that great. So after numerous research, I have decided to install the 55w HID kit from DDM (http://www.ddmtuning.com/hidkihidbuhi.html). I choose the 5000k D2R bulbs, but I think it might be better with the 6000k bulbs (color wise). Anyway, here are the before and after pics. I am very satisfied, and will recommend this kit to anyone.
35w OEM HID 4300k
35w OEM HID 4300k
From the OP pic, your passenger side is not messed up. The right side is the stock 35w beam, and the left is the 55w, because this is what I saw when I compared the two during my install yesterday.
I have an 03 touring with stock HID D2R. So I got the 55W D2R kit from DDM, make sure you get that Dual in-Dual out harness. Right now, everything works great except the ballast intermittently fire up. I believe its a grounding problem since I had to do some wire splicing as mentioned in previous posts. Im thinking about using the car chasis (bolt-hole stripped of paint) as an alternate grounding point for the ballasts...any ideas?
The lights are def brighter and I also say its worth the upgrade. I have some pics of the install, but need a place to mass upload LOL. I currently have LED parking lights on delivery, so next weekend I am hoping to resolve the ballast wiring issues. During that time, I can take more pics of what I did, and maybe it can help others.

Unless you want blue looking headlights (like the stupid xenon $8 bulbs sold all over ebay) don't get anything higher than 5000k. 6000-6500k look very blue. Cops will pull you over for blue headlights and you will stand out when coming down the road.
The higher the Kalvin rating the lower the light output, so if you goto a 6500k bulb you would need 55w just to have the same light output as a 35w 4200k OEM system. Then all you will have left is blue looking headlights. Basically pointless.
The 5000k is still the same color as the OEM (almost) but they have a slightly more bright white color vs. the yellow that HID are after you are no longer seeing the purple reflection from the cutoff and the lens.
I have had a lot of different HID systems in a lot of different cars. The best setup is 4200K systems in either 35 or 55w. If you have an OEM HID car then the 4200k 55w system works awesome for more light. If you are doing a swap (non OEM HID car) then stay away from 55w as you will have soooo much glare. The 35w system will work out a lot better for you.

what you mean 4200k hid kit equals to VVME 43K hid http://www.vvme.com that i run now for almost one year....i upgrade my 35w to 55w 43k last year with my friend's help, he has installed more than 20 sets of VVME HID kits for some friends and family , the hid works awesome ,very bright....
anyhow, not only OEM HID car can get 55w hid system inside .....
whether you use 35w or 55w has nothing to do with your bulbs....
as for most cars , if 35w can work well , then 55w can work on your car lights too and 55w make your headlights more brighter .....
if your car has auto computer system (can-bus system), and some can-bus system restrict you only can install 35w kit, then if you install 55w kit the system will send out error info... if your can-bus system doesnt have limit about 35w or 55w, you can choose 55w kit with 55w digital ballast to make ur headlights more bright......
that is my idea...

My question is are any of you 55w guys running relay kits? I have been running one since i got my kit and i have already been through 3 ballast and it is always my passenger side. It just flickers and craps out. No water gets to it and the reason why I am running the relay kit is because it was recommended by the company I bought the kit from but I have not heard a single thing about it on this thread.
