Question How do I remove my stock XM antenna?

So I'm thinking about getting a black vinyl overlay for my roof and don't know what to do with the stupid XM antenna on my roof . Does anyone know how it's attached to the roof? Is it screwed on from the inside? double sided tape? I'm not sure how to go about taking it off. I want to see how big of a hole there is underneath it. If it's just a small hole, I'll leave the antenna off and just cover it with the vinyl piece. But if the hole is big, then I'm pretty sure you'll be able to tell there's a hole in the roof after putting the vinyl on and that would look bad .

So does anyone know how to take this sucker off?

Dude..I may be wrong here...but I don't think that is factory.

the fact that I don't see a cord going to the hatch area tells me there is a good chance they drilled through your roof. Generally speaking, those antenna's are either held on by a magnet or double sided tape. I'm assuming you would have already realized if it was a magnet as you could just walk up and take it off, but double sided tape can be REALLY strong. Try some fishing line or something similar and see what happens if you try to "floss" under it. if it doesn't budge at all, it MAY be screwed/bolted to your roof, though I've never personally seen that done. I'd be more worried about a hole in your roof if they did in fact drill through your roof. Mastergrade roof cap? LOL

Best of luck man.

Nope - it is factory and yes, they did drill through the roof. It is probably held on with tape and likely other fasteners. Hop over to Courtesy Nissan parts web site and look up the XM antenna - I imagine it'll clear up how it's secured, etc.

Sweet, I'll check that out thanks. I took a close look at it last night and I don't think it's held down with double sided tape now. There's a very thin piece of rubber between the antenna and the roof (I'm guessing to prevent scratching), but I think it might be screwed on from the inside of the car. Guess I can't do my roof overlay now since there's most likely a hole in the roof

I would at least try to take it off. I'd be willing to bet that the hole isn't extremely large...you probably couldn't get away with a vinyl roof overlay, but you could easily get away with a roof cap, a la Mastergrade.

I'd actually prefer a vinyl overlay over carbon fiber. I already have a cf lip and sides so I don't want to go overboard

Paint it black... ...you've pretty much cornered yourself into a wall with your options. Your only other option would be to go to a body shop and have them fix the hole and paint it, or then apply the vinyl, though if you're already at the body shop might as well just have them paint it.

Best of luck man!

I left it on since there will be a huge hole in my roof if I remove it
