Default Harnesses and stock seats?

Ok, so I really want to put harnesses in my car, but working a lower budget. I have seen several people that put harnesses in their Z with stock seats and either a roll bar or harness bar. My question is if that is safer than the stock seat belts with it set like that.

safer? what do you mean by safer? Harnesses allow less movement (when used properly) and a rollcage (depending on location and placement) can put you in more danger under normal driving due to the location near your head or extremities. A harness bar may be a better fit for your application but understand harnesses are meant to be tight...not loose... and can restict movement to view your surroundings when being used daily.

lol Well the Z is so blind, can't get to much worse. I just am not sure if it will be safe, cause the ones I have seen that do it with stock seats have them going under the head rest. I am not sure how well that will hold up if I ever wreck.

Harness bars have one large problem. When used with a 4 or 5 point harness, they will hold your upper torso up, but allow little movement of your head and neck. In the event of a rollover-if the B-pillar shifts- you could suffer serious head or neck injuries. I don't recommend the use of racing harnesses for that reason. You're safer with the three point OEM belt!

I would get the schroth racing harnesses with the autocontrol feature. I like them alot because i get movement; it acts like a normal seatbelt when you pull away from your seat but will lock when pulled on fast. Are these safer then a stock seatbelt, I don't know, but there not like a normal harness where your locked in and can crush your ribs in an accident.

Stock is probably better though but it's up to you.

No it is not safe at all. If you have stock seats do not add a harness bar. If you’re looking for safety everything must be installed together at a certain angle to work properly. That means bucket seats, harness bar and 4/5 point harness. If you’re going to do a mod for safety you have to do it right and in its entirety.
