Default problems with OEM style wing....

Okay, I installed my wing over the holiday weekend. I used automotive quality 3M tape like everyone recommended. The problem is the wing is not fitting perfectly. The corners of the wing are lifting off of the car about a 1/4 of an inch. The wing is OEM style made in Carbon fiber. Now my questions is there anyway I can fix this with out ripping the wing off? I appreciate any suggestions.

Thank you.

Hmmm. The actual OEM spoiler doesn't have any screws at the ends--it's held down by the tape. Have you got it taped all the way out? It sounds like it may be a fitment problem and you might need to secure those ends down by screws or something.

If you have to take that thing off, get a heat gun. It's not fun. Good luck.

Yeah, I don't think the wing is curved like the car. it's off by like 1/4" No screws!!! I was thinking about some kind of adhesive I could squeeze into the gap.

Sounds like a fit problem. I got my OEM mounted with just the tape and it fit perfect. The body shop had to cut the mounting bolts to install it. Did you place the spoiler in the right place? I've heard of the OEM replicas warping as you put them on if you don't get them firmly on in the first shot. You can't attach the middle and work your way out.

Please make sure you align it correctly. If you put it too high or too low the sides won't match up. Did you apply anything before put the wing on? Please let me know how you put it on.

I washed the trunk area with dish soap (dawn) twice. Then I rubbed the area where the wing would go with alcohol. I lined up the wing and attached it to the hatch. I pressed firmly all over the surface of the wing. I then taped the wing down with painters tape, paying special attention to the corners. I let the car sit for about 16 hours.

I walked out to the garage and removed the tape. I checked to see if the wing was secure. When I touched the wing, it came right of with almost no force. Fantastic..

So I thought maybe the tape was old or something. I went to Pep Boys and bought some new 3M automotive tape. I cleaned the wing with alcohol and attached the tape. I cleaned and prepped the hatch the same way as before. I attached the wing and taped it down with painters tape again. I waited another day. I went to check on the wing and found that the corners are lifting again. The wing's curve seems to be a 1/4" different from the curve of the hatch. Before I attached the wing, I checked over and over again to find the best placement. The best I could do still leaves a 1/4" gap. I was hoping the tape would be able to over come this difference but, I guess not.

So I hope that this week the wing will rip off of my car at speed. Completely destroying that G-D wing into a million pieces. After that I hope that a truck runs over those pieces and smashes them even more. If that doesn't happen by the weekend, I will rip off the wing myself and try to mount it again.

I would, but that would be my 3rd time sending the wing back.

Another thing I noticed today. When the car is in the sun, the wing's corners are only about 1/8" off of the car. When the wing is in the sun, the corners lift over 1/4" off of the car.

you could use a heat gun to 'warm' up the wing and try to remold it to your trunk.. but its in carbon.. the resin has already cured. pretty much impossible to redo carbon once it's set..

imho. you're not gonna get too much out of it... send it back.

maybe they lifted it out of the mold too fast, thus its not 'curved' enough to sit flush with the trunk .

I am not convinced that evo-r.net makes quality products. First of all, seeing little to no praises about them. And also topics like this. Evo-R where are you? Help this guy out!

This problem is inherent with replica kits, but a body shop should be able to make it fit correctly with a little heat to bend the wing.

Many other manufacture made this wing too. Basically it is made from OEM wing and turn it to carbon fiber. I saw some was on the ebay too.
