Default window motors

i recently purchased a 03 350z and the drivers side window started acting funny (wouldnt work all the time) so i took it to the shop today and they say the motor is going out and ill need a new one. Then they say the passenger side is acting funny. Does this sound fishy to anyone or is this fairly common? could there be another explanation besides the motors?

I don't think anyone has ever had an issue with this before. You are the very first person with this problem I think. If only there was a way to search to see if others maybe have had this issue before. Maybe someone should research it for you. But how will they accomplish this monumental task? I think someone should make it easier to search past issues and threads. I think you have brought something to light with this one.

Did you even read this thread?

It's a sticky for God sakes.

It's a super common problem. It is not uncommon for both to go out or go out multiple times. Take some time and read through the thread.

just read it actually, i was simply wondering if there was maybe a more functional reason as to why both went out like a fuse or cpu problem and i looked and didnt find anything like that, thats why i asked

If a fuse went out, it would not work AT ALL! And if was the ECU you'd know it because the windows would be the last of your problems. Do yourself a favor and READ. Do not take to a shop or purchase new motor before attempting the DIY...It'll save you a decent amount of cash. I did it and it took me about an hour to get 1 done.... btw functional reason???????

Carbon buildup inside the motor from the brushes?

I just took mine apart and cleaned it all out a year ago. Been working fine since. *knock on wood".

Towards the end of last year my window started to slow down a bit again. I installed a new battery and it came back to life.

I just got a 04 Z with the passenger side window not working and the drivers side struggling Did this to the passenger side and it works wonderfully doing it to the drivers side this weekend. Do yourself a favor and swing by walgreens and pick up the "Get a Grip" in the AS SEEN ON TV section looks like this:

It's like 14 bucks and it looks and works just like this one from the Sevice Manual

I cleaned both motors about 3 months ago using the DIY. It helped for a couple days but I wound up replacing the passenger side motor (which was why I did the DIY) 2 weeks later. Now my driver's side motor is acting up but only when going down, it goes up fine. So I've been living with punching my door while rolling the window down for the last 2 weeks and eventually I will wind up replacing that motor as well.

I gather this is very common for them to go, in my case 3 months apart. Just go do it yourself. It's cake and it cost me 140 buck +/- and 30 minutes for a LLT replacement.
