are we talkin TRUE cf? not overlay. it would really depend how well the CF was made, weight, dry vs wet. and fit. fit would have to be perfect... and strength, I dont want to crack the edge off closing the trunk.

plus youd need new strut bars to hold the lighter trunk or else youll never be able to shut the damn thing.

maybe a thousand if all of that is good. maybe... itd depend how much weight it lost really, as I personally would be painting it anyway, wouldnt be for appearance.

well, shipping is almost same as a hood. I have the hatch in one of my manufacture. He insist want to have this made. I was very concern about the safty issue. But seems like many people are interest in this CF hatch. I guess we'll do it. Will keep you guys updated. -- Jay O it will be wet CF. Cuz Dry CF hot pressed i have to make a metal molding. Which cost is just way too much.

I believe Amuse already offers one for just over US$4000. Lightens the hatch and your wallet in one go.

Whats the benefit besides Bling? How much does the stock hatch weigh? What are the weight savings?

CF hood is worthless IMO. When I first pulled up tthe Z s hood I couldnt believe how light it was. CF hood saves only 1 or 2 LBS.

But hatch... thats different! Its a heavy bich. Could be worthy if it dont chomp up too many greenbacks.

But hey if we get a significant weight reduction wont that screw up our wonderful near 50% %50 weight distribution!

Amuse does make a dry carbon rear hatch for right around $3800, as well as dry carbon doors, front fenders, hood, and front bumper.

I posted this in the wing thread before I saw this one.

I'm in for the Hatch CF or FPR. I'm sure most people here agree that we don't want a rear wiper mount(less weight for me/easier for you) and as for the inside covers just make it a smooth clean finish I don't care about that, you wouldn't see it often.
I will paint it so I just want the weight savings. You could sell it without the glass/lex and let the customer deside with they want. Plus less head ache for you. My biggest concern is fit and finish. Give us your ideas, (cost, fit, finish issues, weight)
Thanks alot,
Gary

53 is front which is one of my concerns with taking weight off the back. Change the hatch, muffler, take out spare and jack etc and you're changing that weight balance.

Give the cost of doing the hatch properly inc painting etc and I'd rather spend the money in the engine.

come on.. the car weighs 3300 lbs.. 1% is 33lbs.. so you'd have to cut 66lbs off the rear of the car to even change you 1 point in the weight balence.. and even still.. thats only 1 point. Hitting 60lbs between all these parts probably isn't tough.. but hitting 100+lbs? thats alot

I don't think it's that difficult to hit 100lbs with all these parts. Ti exhaust will drop about 30lbs. What's the spare and jack? Easy 20lbs I'd suspect. You're halfway there already. What's the hatch and all the interior trim weigh? Must be near 50lbs right?

And if you think 1 or 2% difference doesn't matter then why do serious racers bother with corner weighting? Weight balance is important. Just as important as total weight IMO.

I would think that a lot of the weight on the hatch is from the rear glass.

Does the rear hatch serve any structural purpose? If not, it's a great idea. One of the few times I would buy into CF. That stock hatch has gotta weigh over 100lbs. If you could get that down to 10lbs that would be huge. Not to mention where the weight is coming from; UP HIGH! This would really lower the center of gravity.

yeah I think the weight is much from the glass, tho perhaps a lexan window with CF, youd drop the weight to a matter of pounds at most. tho then some weight is the interior bits, and the motor for the wiper.

Yeah, but the biggest thing would be the cost of such a piece. The cost could drive it out of alot of people range of actually getting it. Also, you have to wonder what function does the hatch play in a car crash and would have to make sure the hatch sealed properly (wouldn't want to have to put pins on it like a CF hood ).
