Default Black plastic pieces in the sides of my front grill, why are they there?

In the front grill of my '07, each side appears to be blocked off by a little black plastic "pocket" looking piece. What is the purpose of them? They are in the way of my Laser Jammer installation.

edit: If no one knows wtf I am talking about, I can take pics.

Those are for structural integrity. Just the way that it is made.

Integrity of what? They don't appear to be attached to the bumper.. looks like they are attached to the aluminum brace behind it.

behind them should be an area you can thread in a tow hook in case you fail and get in a wreck or need to be towed.

I think he's talking about the two plastic pieces shaped like little squares on either side of the front bumper opening. I really don't know what they are or what they do, possibly an aerodynamic aid of some sort.

I removed those things a long time ago, haven't died yet so can't be too important.

I only have one on the passenger side and it directly covers my oil cooler. I assume its a splash guard to keep excessive water from hitting the cooler. But as others have said it can't be too important.

They are there to keep incoming air diverted toward the radiator. Removing them would negate some aerodynamic benefit, but chances are majority of Z owners don't drive fast enough to tell the difference.
