Default <<anyone with upgraded trunk shock>>

I have a quick question that hopefully someone could answer. I have just installed trunk shocks from z1performance and yes they are extremely strong, but the problem is that unlike the stock ones these do not "pop" the trunk open. I actually have to unlock it once to open it a little, but at this point it is not completely released and I have to unlock it again while pulling up. Is this right? Does everyone else have this problem as well?

Thanks in advance.

Erik

It's not the struts. You need to modify or replace the plastic thingys (Can't remember what they are called) on both sides of the latch. There is a penny trick.

Pull the plastic off your trunk springs.. See if they arent locked in place.. If they are you prob need to buy new ones... I guarantee they are probably locked down and you need a new spring on at least one side..

Wait until the shocks start popping off the ball mounts and your hatch falls. The shocks are too strong I had to remove them. They would lift the hatch so fast if you let your hand off the hatch when it opens it will fly up then bang at the top so hard the shock will pop off and fall on the ground, but wait thats not the worst of it. Then the hatch will fall and slam shut, just prey your hand isn't in the way. It's ok if you hold the hatch and slow it during the opening, but if somebody else pops it and lets it go, look out, as in... RUN.. This won't happen at first, but it will eventually and somebody's hand is gonna get crushed.

A guy detailing my car popped it open, it flys up smashes at the top, the shock pops off falls down the side of the car scratching the paint on the rear fender then the lid falls. Thank god he was able to get the scratch out completely.

Honestly, remove those struts and do yourself a favor. I threw mine in the garbage and bought some OEM ones..

Yea these are very powerful struts, but I'm always careful to let it slowly rise... I really don't want to remove them though. I hated getting smacked in the head in cold weather, but it sounds like these will cause problems eventually in other ways... I guess I'll just have to think about it.
