The amber pieces are pretty easy to remove once you have the **** pieces apart. They basically just slide up and out. The LEDs underneath are amber as well.

I've got the procedure to add to this thread for the 06 - 08 AC controls about 95% done, just need to finalize it with what I've recently learned about the **** pointer LEDs and amber coating.

I bought a used control set just so I could figure it out and document it. I'll probably wrap it up this weekend.

That is really nice of you but mine came out well enough from sanding them Once again I really appreciate the offer but keep them for someone who completely destroys theirs or something

Just finished doing the second control on my spare 06 AC module. I think I got the process down pretty good. Will document while doing the third and should have it posted tomorrow night.

You have to take apart the ***** to get at the pointer LED on 06 - 08. There's an 0805 type LED buried inside. I've heard of people replacing it with a 0603 but I used 0805.
I just finished organizing my pics for the procedure on converting the 06 - 08 AC controls including getting rid of the amber coating on the pointer itself.
Give me a day or two to get the procedure added to this thread.

Meanwhile, here's a pic of how the LED sits in there. It's not soldered, sorta snapped in and held in place by the little contacts.

Just discovered something interesting. For those that want this done but don't have the skills to do on their own.

I'm not involved with them and I can't vouch for these guys but their pricing is way agressive. I assume that for extra $$ they would include stock radio and navi.

That BlueGauges.com seems pretty reasonable for what you get. I have never heard of them, so I would be concerned about the quality and work involved. If you get quality workmanship and only have to screw the gauges back in, I would go for it. $235 is about the maximum limit I would go though.

I figure they must be doing decent quantities and working quickly to make it worthwhile. The LEDs, once you get into buying in the thousands from China, are pretty cheap, like 20 cents a piece or less.

I've seen charges as high as $500 - $600 but include the cost of gauge faces, which this $235 does not. So, add another $125 for the gauge faces and it rounds up to roughly $400 including shipping to them.

Success bishes!

Here's the completed 06 AC controls I've been working on. For the updated procedure on these that includes removing the amber from the dial pointers and changing out the pointer LED, go to post #53 in this thread. I have to say, the lighting on the 06 - 08 controls is considerably better than the 03 - 05.

Pic is a little wobbly as I didn't have my tripod handy.

I'm bringing the module to the meet tonight, can swap it in if you want, give you an idea of what it looks like. Also, I'd like to test it as the controls wont work on my 05.

Quick update on the resistors. I ordered a bunch of 1206 type, got them in and discovered they don't replace any of the ones I want to replace. Feh! Evidently Acree was focused on just the PLCC-2 type LEDs only.

A little research reveals I need types 0402 and 2010. The 1206's will come in handy if I decide to monkey around with the PLCC2 type LEDs.

I expect to order within the next day or so.
