Default How does the Nismo spoiler affect the trunk hatch?

I'm considering this spoiler, but was curious how does the weight of the spoiler affect the hatch opening? Does it still open enough for the hook to unlatch? Or will I have to press the button numerous times in order to lift the hatch up?

Just wondering how functionality changes with the extra weight, basically.

Also, if anybody's selling their V1 spoiler (preferably painted Daytona Blue), let me know.

I have the nismo v1 spoiler as well as the stock shocks.. they are not strong enough to hold the hatch open when it's all the way up. popping the trunk doesn't actually pop it either, you need to put some force upwards when you pop it in order to open it right.

aftermarket stronger replacement shocks are like 150$. they are worth it, I just have other priorities atm since I rarely open my hatch

Default yup

I have the V1 spoiler and originally had it on stock shocks. Initially it worked ok, but the first cool day they stop popping and there's a tendency for it to fall (found out the hard way). Then I had OEM Nismo shocks put on and it's a world of difference! I recommend it. I ended up getting the Nismo shocks for free, but I understand they can be expensive. There is somebody on this site that sells heavy duty shocks and a friend of mine bought from him, they are also a great fix and cheaper than OEM Nismo.

The hatch struts I'm not worried about, because I had new ones installed under warranty - they're a redesigned, stronger version of the original OEM.

How much does the Nismo V1 weigh, anyways?

I wonder how much the NISMO 350Z shocks are compared to the normal ones? As they are much stronger to hold the big V3 wing up. Just a idea for you guys.

Just got an email from a vendor that sells replica Nismo V1s and they weigh 18lbs. I took 18lbs worth of water bottles (weighed to confirm), put them in a bag...and placed them on top of the hatch. Tried to pop the hatch open, and it barely comes up, requiring me to push it up a little while pressing the button a few more times.

Decisions, decisions. :\

...

I think I still want the spoiler. It just looks too perfect on the Zs.

that will stop happening over time. did you test if your hatch will stay open on it's own afterwards? I am willing to bet it will not hold up more then a month or two before you have to find some stronger ones.

why bother with a replica v1? I got my authentic for 200$, and it fit's perfect, requires no modification and the tip's don't come down and touch the car and flex a little, that just screams it's a rip off. maybe I am bitter about the experience I had at my auto shop, but I was ordered a replica with the understanding it would be authentic and we had to **** can it and I had to find the real deal somewhere else.

If you buy the new shocks it pops up great!!

You must buy stronger hatch struts too!!! If not you'll be holding the hatch up with your head.

I got Nismo V2 replica wing, and it's pretty damn heavy. I have to press the trunk release button while lifting up the trunk hatch to get it opened.

I assume the penny mod will work in getting the spring cushions to pop a bit more and get the trunk up.

18lbs !?!

holy crap, thats heavy

I was just going to say to remember to take out that weight thats installed under the plastic part of the hatch to offset the weight a little bit, but I dont think it would make much of a difference with an extra 18 lbs on there.

Well technically, any weight that you remove would help. And remember the struts are for holding the hatch up, not opening it. They don't help at all in opening. That's where stronger springs or the penny(s) trick comes in.

The hatch doesn't pop up when the spoiler is installed, but if you take any little bit of weight off the hatch it works good again. I removed the windshield wiper and motor, and the big plastic panel right under the hatch, and it works like great like it used to.
