Default Help Installing VIS Nismo V1

Hi Folks,

I just purchased a VIS Nismo V1 bumper from M1 Auto and am having issues trying to get it installed. I am familiar with installing the stock bumper and have no problems there....and I figured the V1 would be a similar install process but I am having fitament issues.

For some reason I am unable to set the bumper on properly with the foam bumper support in place. So I tried it without the foam bumper support and am still unable to get the thing to fit properly...the metal bumper shows through.

Does anyone have an tips or tricks on getting this fitted? I've read that the VIS variant is supposed to have a pretty decent fit.

Thanks,

Dan

Take the metal bumper off. It's only 4 bolts. Just make sure to put the 4 bolts back in because they also help support the radiator core support.

^^^ Sure. Why not fix the symptom instead of the problem?

I think we should all remove the airbag warning light too if it ever stays on. Why bother getting the airbag checked out? Advice on these forums sometimes...

OP, the bumper bar is there for a reason, it helps distribute force of the impact and keeps smaller impacts from going straight into your engine bay. Do NOT remove the foam either. Fix the problem (your V1). Take your time when trying to hang it on. I find it impossible to believe that the slant of the bumper is so far off that it's hitting your bumper bar or foam; it would have to slope drastically and be extremely short in order to do so. Your problem is likely at the bottom and along the sides. Check there.

Besides, aren't you having a body shop do the paint+install for you?

Sure, why not. It's just cancer. Send it into remission.

Hope you get this to fit. If not, take it as a lesson learned: don't cheap out, it's usually cheap for a reason. Stock looks better than cheaply made and horribly fitted.

Remove the foam support.

What do you mean by the metal bar shows through?

Thanks for all the responses....

I purchased this from M1 (Peter) and assumed it would be finished, ready to bolt on. I was expecting to do some work to get it to fit (drilling holes, adjustments, etc) but didn't quite expect this type of fit. Either I'm obviously doing something wrong or the fitament is the issue.

Here are the pics...

Notice the metal bumper support showing through the open grill area....the holes on top are all lined up and the bumper is fitted to the brackets just below/in front of the headlights. I have not bolted anything in yet....but quite honestly, am unable to do so because the bumper is in the way.

I also wasn't trying to "cheap" out on this mod, but just trying to get an ok deal on something without having to drop the car off at the bodyshop.

Fit the sides flush to the fenders.

It's not abnormal to have a tiny bit of the support showing. You can paint the support black if it bugs you that much.

The fitment of that bumper looks pretty good if you ask me.

Here's a pic back when I just got my bumper and fitted it. You can see the bumper support showing a little.

Just get a grill and you won't be able to see it.

Spork,

Did you end up drilling holes in the bottom for the bolts or just tucked it under?

Ok...got it bolted on and the fit is good....except the hood is now pretty difficult to get latched and closed....

Is this normal? Everything looks lined up and in place...

Will upload pics tonight.
