How To Remove Haze On Headlights
My headlights have a great deal of haze, must be the Miami sun.
What can I use to buff out the haze. What type/brand of pad, wet sandpaper, etc, can I use.
I've used a Meguiars product which works well, but still leaves a film of haze.
I need something to buff out the shine. What can I used.
Your advise is greatly appreciated.
All the best!

Try one of many types of plastic polish, like Mother's: http://hawgwash.stores.yahoo.net/moplpo.html
There is a 3M one which may work a bit better as well. It took me a long time in our 04'ZR.

I was on the verge of replacing my headlights due to the haze. But the detailer in my town said I needed to have them wet sanded, buffed and polished. He did it for $65 each. So not knowing better I did it. $130 total! Looked great, but with in a year it looked the same again. Crap are you kidding me! I work for a private business jet company and one of our aircraft detailers told me not to waste my money. He went into the hanger at work and brought out Novus Plastic Polishes. In about 15min they looked brand new! No buffing, sanding or any tools. Just a soft cloth. Try this stuff its great! It's about $21 for all 3 bottles and it only take a little bit to do the job. The bottles should last a long time. Let me know if you have any questions.

man people listen! buffing will only make your headlights look good for a couple of months until the oxidation comes back again!
THE only way that I have found out over the years of doing other peoples headlights at my body shop is to wetsand them down with 1000 and then put 2 coats of clear coat on them, not only will they look better than new, they will look like that forever!
Now take them to your nearest body shop doesnt matter if they are shady bc its just clear coat and pay them to do it and never worry about your headlights again. even taillights.
and no i am not talking about the clear coat in a spray can (krylon)

^i don't think ur idea will work, cuz when u do wetsanding with 1000grit, then u're at the plastic. if u clear coat the plastic, it will become a clear coat with hazy plastic (frost plastic with a glossy look)..
on the other hand, the polish compound will bond to the plastic to make it shine. so, instead of just sanding them with 1000 then coat them, it would be better if u sand, polish, and then clear coat. or instead of a clear coat, u could always put one of those transparent layers that are done by BlueBatMobile.
and if u don't mind, share some pix of those that u've done.. i'd love to see how it looks.

^ummmm i've been doing this to headlights for a long time buddy.
if you wetsand the plastic you will see the water turning yellow from removing the oxidation, when your done wax and grease remover them to see how they will look like once clear clear coated and to see if you need to sand some more, then you can clear coat.
and for pics I dont have any pics bc when a customer brings in the headlights im not really thinking about taking pics. so next time i have some headlights that need to be cleared i'll take some pics and PM them to you.
oh and for your "theory" if you polish out the sand marks how is the clear coat going to bind to the plastic hmm? that **** will flake off in a month.

I wet sand and buff headlights all the time. Start with a 1200 grit wet paper and then use a 1500 girt. Then take the buffer and a foam pad and buff with some 3m compound. After a few coats of that i use a good wax like zymol and also some plastic polish. Just keep them waxed and they will stay nice for ever. The downside to clear coating them would be rock chips from daily driving. If you get little chips on your headlights that arent cleared then you can just wet sand them out and buff again. I did my 08 headlights Saturday and was going to take pics but my girlfriend had the camera.

I use the jiff chunky peanut butter, works like a charm, and you can get it almost anywhere. Possibly a special order though if your local store doesn't have it in stock.
