tired of searching...need help
I have a thread for taking the headlights apart for replacing the amber strips with clear. This would get you inside the housing and pulling the chrome covered pieces out.
From there you could paint those flat black and re-assemble.
Is that what you had in mind for blacking out?
If so, click below and just disregard the steps related to the clear diffuser strips unless you want to replace those.

Also, I found these in the DIY section:

thanks ibz, but i'm trying to figure out what pieces come apart on the interior of the 03 headligths. ie the area around the turn signal bulb and the rest of the housing.
Looks like the second of the 3 links I grouped together shows what comes apart in the 06.
From what I can tell, the only mechanical difference in that from the 03 - 05 models is the LED module that replaced the amber diffuser strip.
Popping the amber strip out would be the same as removing the LED module.
It's not all that complex. Just have to handle the main bulb with caution, not getting any finger prints on the actual bulb, handling only by the base, and then making sure you get a good seal when you put it back together again.
And make sure you remove all parts before baking.
