I have seen a few Zs with them done and jw how they did it. Searched Painted door handles and most of the threads are 3-5 years old. Any help?

remove them yourself fairly easy to do, just remember how everything goes for when you put them back on.

for removal, do you have to take the inside door panel off? or can the 'pull' part of the handle be taken off easily, which would expose the back and underside of the handle for easy paint

any kind of clear coat would work, though you're probably going to want to find something that has a high hardening property, maybe even go with enamel since it is a high contact area and you dont want your work to wear off
maybe this? http://www.hobbylinc.com/htm/szx/szx90109.htm

or just some standard automotive clearcoat, but again the high touch area may not hold up over the years with standard auto clear coat.

most shops will do it for you for roughly 65 dollars a handle. i have a place in raleigh that does OUTSTANDING work at extremely good prices (my brother works there) so if you're ever in raleigh let me know (i live in charlotte but id make a call for you), and a tint shop that has done my last 7 cars so you could kill two birds with one stone in raleigh

Just had mine done, took them to a paint shop as they would have done a better job than me!!

Passanger side off and back on in seconds... Driver side is a different kettle of fish! My advice is to undo the 3 screws, (2 inside behind the rubber gromets and one in the side of the door.) The pull out the door handle slightly and look for the brass door lock.

This is held by one bolt, use a ratchet with a 8 or 10mm socket (cant remember which!) and then leave the lock in the door and remove the handle....

When refitting the handle locate the leaver arm and then refit the lock...

I couldnt find a "how too" on this but I may do one soon with pics!....

take it to a body shop and ask them to do them in a ceramic clear coat, since the door handles are a high traffic area they are prone to scratches. the standox ceramic clear coat is more chip/scratch resistance. The Standox clear coat will even fix minor scratches by itself with the heat of the sun.

Im confused. You say that you dont have the ***** to tape the handle to paint but you tell people that they dont have to take them off to paint ?

No matter how good you think you are, just take those handles off to paint!
It only takes about 5-10 mins for both of them anyway.

I traded another member for mine back in October of last year. They are still holding up very well, since I gave up wearing brass knuckels. LOL

I would follow the directions given by 3Fiddyzed, just make sure your tools have a good magnetic cling when removing the nuts, otherwise if they fall in between the door you need to remove the entire panel.

I was gonna do this, but then thought a silver door handle blends better with my silver paint versus a black handle. Looks good on the pic above though^

Nope, you do not have to remove any of the interior panels to do this mod, just the door handles!

Oh and if you do paint the handles on the door you will find you wont get the paint in the bit where your fingers go or you will be doing too much taping up...

Seriously, just drop the 2 bolts out of the inside of the passanger door (behind the 2 grommets next to the door card, behind where the handle is located.) and take the handle off and have a look...

When carefully refitting, drop the leaver arm in first so it locates into the blue plastic cup in the door and then tighten up the 2 bolts and test the handle to make sure it opens... Best done with the window down so if it hasnt located you can just use the interior handle to open and then try and relotate the arm!
