Default Aftermarket Bumper Fog Lights

Alright so i bought and installed the JP Vizage type A front bumper.
I bought some cheap fog lights at pepboys for like 20 bucks. of course i wasnt happy with the color (they looked cool though >.>) it came with yellow bulbs (3000k) i replaced with white bulbs (4000k). I noticed the lense was melting.

anyway, im looking for 6000k~ fog lights, now the problem is... all i see are the bulbs.. i've looked like crazy clicking on every single link on google, ebay, forums etc. I cant find the housing for 6000k bulbs. the other problem is that the lights have to be 3" - 3 1/2" or it wont fit.

Anyone with the same/similar bumper or any other car for that matter with fog lights that can give me some advice?

thanks~

I used those same pepboys lights you have from the looks of it. I just wanted the holes filled for asthetics so I never actual used the fogs really. Its REALLY hard to find the right size and nearly impossible to find good ones.

In the end I was going to shave the holes from the bumper and smooth it out. It actually looks awesome that way. Another member here Jeffie (in the Mid-A) did the shaved look. FYI. PumpedVA on here is also VERY familiar with this and has this bumper with fogs for sale right now, so he may be able to give you more insight.

Good luck. I destroyed my JP bumper and have moved on to the Amuse. I may have extra fogs around if you want that I can send you, just let me know and Ill look (no wiring though. They didn't come yellow that I remember, but blue like the ones you have I your pic.

higher color rating = higher temperature? if thats not right then i cant explain why its melting... but if that is in fact right and following that logic pattern, if i put a 6000k bulb on it will destroy and probably explode my lense >.> and the bulb in the process too probably.

in any case i dont wanna risk it + waste more money, i've seen many cars with 6000k-8000k fog lights, so i figured someone here knew.
in the most extreme case im gonna have to stop one of those ppl in the middle of the road and ask them about their lights >.>.... i'd rather not do that though! :<

absolutely, 100% wrong. kelvin is color temperature, not heat temperature. For example, blue light is consider a "cool" color temp and a red is a "warm" color temp

to put it bluntly you don't know what you are doing. The reason you were melting the lens is most likely a result of crappy lights and/or housings (you did say you bought them at pep boys)-> if not that, using a bulb that was too high wattage for the housings was the reason.

Do you even know what the housings and harness are rated for (wattage)? Do you know what size bulb the housings take -> H4, 9006, etc?

Yeah...people have HID fogs...but

1) You don't have them. You stated you have an H3 halogen 55w. So the "6000K" you're speaking of is wrong imo. HID bulbs use that terminology for their system of bulbs.

2) they aren't made (or VERY difficult to find) in the size to fit that hole like you want. Good luck finding them. MANY have tried. That bumper isn't new.You seem to have found one's that fit well. Work with it if you want the holes filled. Its an aftermarket bodykit and sometimes stuff on them is more cosmetic than practical honestly.

3) If it were a real HID there will be an associated ballast as well. You bought cheap NON-HID fogs, have fun making them into HID. Yeah they may say some crap about the HID "look" on the box bleh bleh but they aren't. Maybe that was the confusion.

You can go get different color H3 bulbs or simple do a transparent colored layer over it and change the color you're looking for. If you change bulbs...remember...they're cheap lights. What can you expect?
