Default Any issues with 3M FX-HP (High Performance) Window tint and cell phone signal?

Looking into tinting my Silver Alloy Nismo. Put a call in to my detailer and I'm looking at 3M FX-HP 35 and 3M Colorstable 35. Only interested in 35% to keep it legal here in Colorado. They do ticket here, my Maxima has dark tint (installed before I bought it) and I got a ticket once.

What I'm wondering if people have had cell phone signal issues with the FX-HP all around since is a hybrid metallic film? I have heard it can impact cell/radio/gps reception and it's a selling point for the Colorstable line so there may be some truth (or more marketing BS).

I like the fact FX-HP has better light transmission (41%) and Heat reflection (42%) than the Colorstable (38% and 39%).

I might consider a mixed install too, FX-HP on the trunk since it gets the most exposure and Colorstable on the side windows to keep the metal film away from the main cabin.

Any thoughts or first hand experience?

FYI - I did search My350Z and Google extensively first, no satisfying info.

How the hell can a thin film of tint affect reception? I'd assume if homes and concrete parking garages are no problem, then an extremely thin piece of tint wouldn't do much.

I think you'll be fine, try asking other tinting shops what they have to say.

It's the flakes of metal in the tint that can deflect/degrade radio signals. It even impacts modern military missiles. ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chaff_(...ountermeasure)) ) So +1 for potential radar deflection/absorbtion

I'm mostly trying to sort though the marketing BS (i.e. one of the reasons to upgrade to Colorstable which is a little more expensive, but less effective for heat reflection.) Cost isn't the concern for me, but heat, cell, gps, and radio reflection is.

I'm just wondering if someone has 3M FX-HP on all windows (except the windshield) and noticed a noticeable negative impact on signal reception. I would think there would be a LOT of people with this setup. I'm guessing no because no one has chimed in, it has not been a noticeable impact.

I wanted to bounce it off the group before committing to a decision.

Besides it's a new uncovered thread we can flame about when the next chump asks the question...

Cheers!

Good idea, I will get some other shops opinions too. A little worried about their objectivity though because the non-metallic films are more expensive.
