Ebay black housing headlights good or bad??
Usually I wouldnt cheap out and buy ebay parts for my z but on past cars iv come to find out that not all the knock offs are bad. Some of my best parts were ebay knock offs. Im looking for black housing headlights but dont want to paint mine and dont want to tint the lense. Im pretty sure you'v all seen the headlights im talking about if not ill post a link. Does anyone have any feedback on these from someone that has them ?? Pictures would also help greatly. Thanks
I would still suggest you do your own instead. It is really not that difficult.

Iv read that many people have had problems with them not sealig the right way. Another problem I heard was that the paint let off fumes once under sunlight for long periods of time and fogged the lenses from the inside. Between that and the fact that i need my highbeams to work and that my current light has messed up lenses

if its the inexpensive ones, those are BASE headlights, and will not work on a 350Z with HID. dont make the same mistake I (and many others, theres a thread somewhere) made.
First of all it is easy to black out the OEM and if you follow procedures it will be perfectly fine. Dont paint the highbeam reflector part as many of us do and you will also be fine. Make sure you dont paint the low beam reflector too cause you definately still need that. The projector is not enough. If you follow this it will be 0% light lost.
And on the subject of mess up lenses.
2 ideas.
I see at least once a week a pair of oem light so on ebay for less then the cost of the knock offs which average out at 180. Halogens are more likely to be easier to pick off that cheap.
Numbro Dos. Since you want blacked out lights anyways, open them up and replace the lenses with a pair of knock off headlights from ebay. they are a perfect fit apparently.
Just trust me dont get the ebay lights. They are almost guarenteed to be worse then anything you do to oem. Plus you dont have a choice if you have HID and dont want to get rid of it.

they have a relatively good cutoff line for being ebay.
BUT LET ME FOREWARN YOU after about 2 months, the lens started 'fracturing.' i put it in ' ' because i dont know a better word. they werent actual cracks, but when you stood behind the hood facing towards the front of the car, you could see all these rainbow lines in the lenses from some sort of stress marks or something of that nature. couldnt see them standing in front of the car looking at it. just my experience
yeah same ones i bought. if you dont have HIDs on your base then youre good to go with compatibility. itd actually be really easy to convert to HID with these since you dont have them OEM.

so the plastic lens will get sress cracks or not tolerate hid? because i was planning on swapping the plastic lens with the ebay ones but keeping my oem lights..i just need a new plastic cover
These are crap. Trust me. The Touring Z I bought had a pair of E-Bay lights in it which I was unaware of until I bought some D2R bulbs and was surprised at the missing ballast/igniter when I went to install! The original E-Bay lights leaked after only a couple weeks of ownership and came with extensive stress cracks. I bought a pair of E-Bay lights in April '09 not realizing that the originals were E-Bay lights and thinking the previous owner had just sold his OEM HID's and put cheaper OEM Halogens in. After a couple months one side began to fill with water like an aquarium. After resealing them the same side leaked again almost imediately. The one side that has never experience leaking has minor hazing on the inside.
I would stay away from these E-Bay aftermarket headlights and try and get a pair of OEM headlights, HID or Halogen.
I would also avoid buying these to replace your OEM lenses. When I baked the housing the headlights developed extreme stress cracks upon cooling. I followed the DIY exactly.
I would just stay away from Chinese brand garbage products period.
On the other hand it is only $180 for a set of headlights so gamble at your own risk.
