Default Question on headlight replacement

Hey guys, I just picked up a used 03 base model this week and I'm new to this forum.

I just installed a plug n play hid kit today and had a question about the gray round plastic cover that goes in the back of the headlight assembly.

Is it okay to leave the cover off? I know some people drill holes in the cover to run the wires that go to the ballast but I wasn't able to because I didn't have access to a drill, and it was getting dark outside. So for now, I left the plastic covers off. Will it be okay to run the car that way? Will that cause condensation inside the headlight housing? thanks in advance.

PS, I've never owned a car that was so complicated to change out headlights. Argh...
